Petroselinum crispum var. neapolitanumTwo forms of parsley are used as herbs curly leaf and Italian, or flat leaf (P. neapolitanum). Curly leaf parsley is often used as a garnish. Many people think flat leaf parsley has a stronger flavor, and this opinion is backed by chemical analysis which finds much higher levels of essential oil in the flat-leaved cultivars[citation needed]. One of the compounds of the essential oil is apiol. The use of curly leaf parsley may be favored by some because it cannot be confused with poison hemlock, like flat leaf parsley or chervil. Another type of parsley is grown as a root vegetable, as with hamburg root parsley. This type of parsley produces much thicker roots than types cultivated for their leaves. Although little known in Britain and the United States, root parsley is very common in Central and Eastern European cuisine, where it is used in most soups or stews. Though it looks similar to parsnip it tastes quite different. Parsnips are among the closest relatives of parsley in the umbellifer family of herbs, although the similarity of the names is a coincidence, parsnip meaning "forked turnip". It is not related to real turnips.

5. The Advantages of Windowsill Herb Gardens
July 09, 2008
If you love to cook with parsley, basil, rosemary, or sage, you know that there's nothing like cooking with freshly picked herbs. Even if you purchase these items in the store, they won't have the same vibrant taste as the herbs you grow in your own garden. Chances are, once you start growing your own herbs, you won't want to go back to purchasing them!
Cost Effective
For the most part, dried herbs will cost you well over $3.00 for a small bottle of a decent brand name. At the same time, the cost of fresh herbs is just as prohibitive - even more so if you want to purchase fresh or... (read more)

7. How to get rid of Bruises
June 15, 2008
A bruise is a common skin injury that results in a discoloration of the skin. Blood from damaged blood vessels deep beneath the skin collects near the surface of the skin resulting in what we think of as a black and blue mark.
Parsley is a common garden herb, rich in vitamins and therapeutic properties. Parsley has the ability to shrink small blood vessels and is helpful in treating piles, broken or thread veins and bruising. Crush a handful of parsley and apply to bruised area. Repeat regularly with the fresh herb and the leaves will clear up the black-and-blue marks in a few days.

8. The Preachers and Candidates Wars of 2008
June 11, 2008
Pastors Wright, Hagee and Parsley have been thrown under the bus and Dr. Dobson is still under scrutiny as he continues to size up the presidential candidates. Who is a casualty and who is the victor in this war between pastors and presidential hopefuls?
When the evangelicals felt they got burned by Jimmy Carter they chose more carefully the next time around and Ronald Reagan did not disappoint them. President Bush has not so much disappointed the Christians but the nation with what seems to be failed war policies. The jury is still out on that because only history will tell if the war in... 9. I want to grow cooking herbs.
April 23, 2008
Grow your own cooking herbs to add fresh zest and flavor to your menus year-round! Is It a Cooking Herb or a Spice? The first thing to know in selecting which herbs to grow is the difference between cooking (culinary) herbs and spices. The cinnamon stick you put in your hot chocolate or apple cider is a spice while the parsley on the edge of your plate is an herb. Cooking herbs are usually the fresh or dried leaves of plants while spices are the ground seeds, roots, fruits, flowers, and/or bark. Herbs grow very well in temperate zones, while spices generally come from tropi... (read more)

10. What's so special about a spaghetti garden.
April 22, 2008
One of the delightful pleasures of life are herbs. Besides adding beauty to your garden they make foods taste better and provide a pleasant scent to the air we breathe. In George Washington days everyone had a herb garden that they used for culinary, teas and medicinal purposes. That practice is slowly coming back.
A spaghetti garden is one of the most popular kitchen gardens. Anyone that has a sunny patch of ground or a window-box can grow these herbs of parsley, garlic, basil, bay laurel and oregano. A small garden space can easily yield all the herbs that you’ll need for delicious Ita... (read more)

11. Seafood Soup
April 04, 2008
When seafood soup is served to start off a meal, it might be a light broth with a few small cubes of fish and perhaps a hint of chives or parsley; or it might be a small bowl of rich creamy bisque or thick North American chowder flavored with milk and cream or with tomatoes. At Mexican seafood restaurants, I've also had chowder-like first-course fish soups, but they were lighter and spicier than their New England counterparts.
Add vegetables to a seafood soup, and serve it with rice, noodles or hearty bread, and it becomes substantial enough to play the role of a main course. A mildly se... (read more)

12. Dumping Pastors to Get Elected - Theology America Does Not Understand
March 16, 2008
Bible schools and seminaries may have to teach freshmen the difference between liberal and conservative theology but there is little hope of getting the average American to understand the difference.
If you are Catholic the epistemology or the body of knowledge you refer to see if things are orthodox or conservative would be ex-cathedra or Papal encyclicals and Catholic dogma. Although it is not always that clear even Catholic teachings are supposed to be derived from the Bible. For the protestant the only guide is the scriptures, the Bible alone.
In today’s climate of “religious tol... (read more)

21. Two Inches of Fun
October 01, 2007
Last winter brought a lot of boredom here on Hess Lake until we discovered the sport of ice fishing. Every weekend we would wake up at 5 am or even stay up all night just to get in the car and go to Parsley’s (Local hunting and fishing store) and get the day started.
Crappie rigs and night crawlers is all we ever bought. For some odd and unapparent reason we all brought a lucky quarter just for good luck and it usually worked. This day started like all the rest except for what happened when we all got out on the ice.
Hour after hour no fish for anyone. We tried everything fly’s, w... (read more)
