History of psychology
Branches of psychologyOne emphasis in this area is to construct a coherent picture of a person and his or her major psychological processes [2]. Another emphasis views personality as the study of individual differences, in other words, how people differ from each other. A third area of emphasis examines human nature and how all people are similar to one another. These three viewpoints merge together in the study of personality. The pioneering American psychologist, Gordon Allport (1937) described two major ways to study personality, the nomothetic and the idiographic. Nomothetic psychology seeks general laws that can be applied to many different people, such as the principle of self-actualization, or the trait of extraversion. Idiographic psychology is an attempt to understand the unique aspects of a particular individual. The study of personality has a rich and varied history in psychology, with an abundance of theoretical traditions. The major theories include dispositional (trait) perspective, psychodynamic, humanistic, biological, behaviorist and social learning perspective. There is no consensus on the definition of "personality" in psychology. Most researchers and psychologists do not explicitly identify themselves with a certain perspective and often taken an eclectic approach. Some research is empirically driven such as the "Big 5" personality model whereas other research emphasizes theory development such as psychodynamics. There is also a substantial emphasis on the applied field of personality testing.

“Where to hide the divinity?” was the big question
They considered heights of icy mountains, limits of shining stars and pits of the earth. But every place was accessible to man’s capabilities. ... (read more)

4. Common Features of Personality Disordersx
September 29, 2009
Psychology is more an art form than a science. There is no "Theory of Everything" from which one can derive all mental health phenomena and make falsifiable predictions. Still, as far as personality disorders are concerned, it is easy to discern common features. Most personality disorders share a set of symptoms (as reported by the patient) and signs (as observed by the mental health practitioner). Patients suffering from personality disorders have these things in common:
They are persistent, relentless, stubborn, and insistent (except those suffering from the Schizoid or the Avoidant Pe... (read more)

5. 7 Words - Intuitive Communication Model
September 26, 2009
Many people are justifiably concerned that their way of life is permanently at risk from climate changes, war and pollution. The problem lies in the way we think. Humanity has misunderstood the nature of reality and is now facing the inevitable consequences of having ignored all the signs that indicated that a new way had to be found. If we are collectively to change how we think, there needs to be some way that explains all of our experiences and is reasonably satisfactory to everyone. The 7 Words System offers this. It is defined by the use of 7 primary words—No, Hello, Thanks, Goodbye, Plea... (read more)

7. Sorry Dr Maslow, I Think You're Wrong
August 12, 2009
In the 1950s Abraham Maslow wrote a book entitled Motivation and Personality in which he outlined his now famous 'Hierarchy of Needs.' Over the years since its introduction Maslow's Hierarchy has gained wide acceptance as a tool in understanding motivation. It has been used in areas as diverse as Marketing and Christian Evangelism as well as Psychology. Maslow rightly holds a place of high regard in many circles. However, I do believe Maslow got it wrong... at least in the position in which he places Self-Esteem within his Hierarchy. According to Maslow, the order of the Hierarchy... (read more)

Unfortunately, on many occasions, knowing what to do is not the difficult part. What is hard is actually taking action. Have you realized how good children are at devising excuses for not doing what they know to be correct? Breaching the distance between ideas and implementation is a universal problem.
