Pneumonia is an inflammatory illness of the lung. [1] Frequently, it is described as lung parenchyma/ alveolar inflammation and abnormal alveolar filling with fluid. The alveoli are microscopic air-filled sacs in the lungs responsible for absorbing oxygen. Pneumonia can result from a variety of causes, including infection with bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, and chemical or physical injury to the lungs. Its cause may also be officially described as idiopathic—that is, unknown—when infectious causes have been excluded. Typical symptoms associated with pneumonia include cough, chest pain, fever, and difficulty in breathing. Diagnostic tools include x-rays and examination of the sputum. Treatment depends on the cause of pneumonia; bacterial pneumonia is treated with antibiotics. Pneumonia is a common illness which occurs in all age groups, and is a leading cause of death among the elderly and people who are chronically and terminally ill. Vaccines to prevent certain types of pneumonia are available. The prognosis depends on the type of pneumonia, the appropriate treatment, any complications, and the person's underlying health. People with infectious pneumonia often have a cough producing greenish or yellow sputum, or phlegm and a high fever that may be accompanied by shaking chills. Shortness of breath is also common, as is pleuritic chest pain, a sharp or stabbing pain, either experienced during deep breaths or coughs or worsened by it. People with pneumonia may cough up blood, experience headaches, or develop sweaty and clammy skin. Other possible symptoms are loss of appetite, fatigue, blueness of the skin, nausea, vomiting, mood swings, and joint pains or muscle aches. Less common forms of pneumonia can cause other symptoms; for instance, pneumonia caused by Legionella may cause abdominal pain and diarrhea, while pneumonia caused by tuberculosis or Pneumocystis may cause only weight loss and night sweats. In elderly people manifestations of pneumonia may not be typical. They may develop a new or worsening confusion or may experience unsteadiness, leading to falls. Infants with pneumonia may have many of the symptoms above, but in many cases they are simply sleepy or have a decreased appetite.[2]

4. Weight Loss Surgery in Los Angeles at the California Surgical Weight Loss Center
November 10, 2008
Dr. Paya is a board certified general surgeon and has a fellowship in weight loss surgery. He is very experienced. He performs three different operations for weight loss which are laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic gastric banding (Lap-Band), and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. He performs all these surgeries through keyhole incisions by using very thin instruments while he is watching the monitor. The benefits are that patients leave the hospital much quicker, and the chance of wound infections and pneumonia are dramatically decreased. Cosmetically the abdomen looks a lot better.... 5. Injury Treatment
November 07, 2008
The purpose of this article is primarily to discuss injury prevention, as well as the appropriate management of running injuries, as well as other sports and activities that requires running. Runners, football players, basketball players, frisbee players are notoriously bad when dealing with injuries.
It's funny how most runners seem to take perverse pride in completing that marathon only 1 week after the hip replacement (carrying the crutches just in case), and with pneumonia, and with the left calf still niggling! They thought it is a heroic act.
Over time I hope to develop more ar... (read more)

6. Deadly Mesothelioma Symptoms Could Be Mistaken For Common Cold
October 30, 2008
Chronic coughing, shortness of breath, weight loss, fatigue, abdominal pain and chest pain are all symptoms of common ailments such as bronchitis, pneumonia and the flu. These same symptoms, however, are also those of the early stages of the rare and fatal cancer, mesothelioma.
Because mesothelioma symptoms resemble those of common aliments, victims of the rare cancer are often misdiagnosed. As a result of such misdiagnosis, most cases of mesothelioma are not detected until the cancer is in an advanced stage, making it difficult to treat. If you are experiencing these symptoms, contact u... (read more)
