Political science is a branch of social sciences that deals with the theory and practice of politics and the description and analysis of political systems and political behavior. Political science is often described as the study of politics defined as "who gets what, when and how". [1] Political science has several subfields, including political theory, public policy, public administration, national politics, and comparative politics. Political science is methodologically diverse. Approaches to the discipline include classical political philosophy, interpretivism, structuralism, and behavioralism, realism, pluralism, and institutionalism. Political science, as one of the social sciences, uses methods and techniques that relate to the kinds of inquiries sought primary sources such as historical documents and official records, secondary sources such as scholarly journal articles, survey research, statistical analysis, case studies, and model building. Political scientists study the allocation and transfer of power in decision-making, the roles and systems of governance including governments and international organizations, political behavior and public policies. They measure the success of governance and specific policies by examining many factors, including stability, justice, material wealth, and peace. Some political scientists seek to advance positive theses by analyzing politics. Others advance normative theses, by making specific policy recommendations. Political scientists provide the frameworks from which journalists, special interest groups, politicians, and the electorate analyze issues. Political scientists may serve as advisers to specific politicians, or even run for office as politicians themselves. Political scientists can be found working in governments, in political parties or as civil servants. They may be involved with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or political movements. In a variety of capacities, people educated and trained in political science can add value and expertise to corporations. Private enterprises such as think tanks, research institutes, polling and public relations firms often employ political scientists. In the United States, political scientists known as "Americanists" look at a variety of data including elections, public opinion and public policy such as Social Security reform, foreign policy, U.S. congressional power, and the U.S. Supreme Court—to name only a few issues.

Be Afraid…Be Very Afraid!
By Jon Tomczyk
Just what is it that makes erstwhile respectable scientists sacrifice the ideals of science and the commitment to truth and objective analysis to the god of political expediency? Nowhere is this more apparent than in the pronouncements of environmental scientists on the issue of global warming and climate change. Environmental scientists are becoming so obsessed with the righteousness of their cause that they are damning those who wish to use science as an objective tool in public policy decisions.

May 19, 2008
Hillary refuses to acknowledge the math. The nice thing about math is that there is always a right answer, a proof. Politics on the other hand is not an exact science. Hillary understands that she’s a factor in a political problem, not a math problem. Hillary is a bureaucratic insider and a political power broker of the old school, she understands that the political system favors insiders.
I emailed a number of public officials last night in a fit-of-pique. Comcast called me again. They have been calling weekly since I got my cell number last August. Cory used to have my phone numbe... (read more)
