Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions. The term is generally applied to behavior within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. Politics consists of "social relations involving authority or power"[1] and refers to the regulation of a political unit,[2] and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy.[3] The Chinese philosopher Confucius (551-471 BCE) was one of the first thinkers to adopt a distinct approach to political philosophy. His philosophy was "rooted in his belief that a ruler should learn self-discipline, should govern his subjects by his own example, and should treat them with love and concern."[7] His political beliefs were strongly linked to personal ethics and morality, believing that only a morally upright ruler who possessed "de", or virtue, should be able to exercise power, and that the behavior of an individual ought to be consistent with their rank in society. He stated that "Good government consists in the ruler being a ruler, the minister being a minister, the father being a father, and the son being a son."[8] The Greek philosopher Plato(428-348 BC), in his book The Republic, argued that all conventional political systems (democracy, monarchy, oligarchy and timarchy) were inherently corrupt, and that the state ought to be governed by an elite class of educated philosopher-rulers, who would be trained from birth and selected on the basis of aptitude "those who have the greatest skill in watching over the community."[9] This has been characterised as authoritarian and elitist by some later scholars, notably Karl Popper in his book The Open Society and its Enemies, who described Plato's schemes as essentially totalitarian and criticised his apparent advocacy of censorship.[10] The Republic has also been labeled as communist, due to its advocacy of abolishing private property and the family among the ruling classes; however, this view has been discounted by many scholars, as there are implications in the text that this will extend only to the ruling classes, and that ordinary citizens "will have enough private property to make the regulation of wealth and poverty a concern."[11]

5. Education
November 21, 2008
Let’s start with a subject near and dear to our hearts. That is the education of our young people. It seems that the American youth have fallen far behind the rest of the world in education. This is a sorry state of affairs from the greatest, richest most powerful country of the world. While children in Europe can speak at the very least two languages, American youth have trouble reading and writing English. Instead of setting high standards of education to insure that we produce the next generation of world leaders, we have dumbed-down our educational standards. So just where does... (read more)

November 14, 2008
As I watched with excitement the finals of Zee Sa Re Ga Ma, glued to the TV sets at a friend’s house, what struck me was the massive number of votes that each of the finalists got. It was a mind numbing figure that crossed a whopping 10,00,00,000!!! Yes! Those were over ten crore votes that were polled! While my friends debated with excitement at how Bengalis reaching the finals of any such show were bound to win due to the massive way they vote, I couldn’t help but wonder at the irony around the fact that these are the same Bengalis who allow their votes to be rigged election after election i... 18. Obama's Not Muslim. Internet Marketing and Public Curiosity Play Major Roles In Election.
November 12, 2008
I wrote an article for American Chronicle before the end of the election titled "The Politics of Paid Search - Combatting the Obama and Palin Rumors". In it, I discussed how Obama's camp did a far better job squelching the rumors largely spread via e-mail proclaiming many unsavory "facts" about the various candidates. As I've continued to see interest in this topic, I decided to dive deeper and see why people have spent so much time discussing how the Internet was utilized in this campaign. One of the most prevailing rumors spread via email was that Obama was a muslim. 20. Who are "They" Anyway? Who are "They" Anyway?
November 12, 2008
We may never know who "they" are but we do know "they" prevailed. When it comes to politics the game is the same everywhere. From the smallest of town meetings to the president of the United States, the game is the game. If anyone should come before the electorate who threatens the status quo, "they" immediately begin to do whatever is necessary to take that candidate down. If that candidate should prevail and win, "they" simply continue to undermine and prohibit the winner's ability to get anything of substance accomplished. This tactic leaves the candidate frustrated with the system and... (read more)
