A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in psychiatry and is certified in treating mental disorders. [1] All psychiatrists are trained in diagnostic evaluation and in psychotherapy. And, as part of their evaluation of the patient, psychiatrists are one of only a few mental health professionals who may prescribe psychiatric medication, conduct physical examinations, order and interpret laboratory tests and electroencephalograms, and may order brain imaging studies such as computed tomography or computed axial tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography scanning. [citation needed]Psychiatrists are either 1) physicians (MBBS, MD, DO, etc) who specialize in treating mental illness or (2) scientists who are qualified as doctors in the academic field of psychiatry. All psychiatrists who treat individuals clinically are physicians. Research psychiatrists—like researchers in other medical fields such as immunologists—may or may not be physicians, depending on their qualifications. This varies internationally. The field of psychiatry itself can be divided into various subspecialties.[2] These include Some psychiatric practitioners specialize in helping certain age groups. Child and adolescent psychiatrists work with children and teenagers in addressing psychological problems.[2] Those who work with the elderly are called geriatric psychiatrists or geropsychiatrists.[2] Those who practice psychiatry in the workplace are called organizational and occupational psychiatrists in the US (occupational psychology is the name used for the most similar discipline in the UK).[2] Psychiatrists working in the courtroom and reporting to the judge and jury, in both criminal and civil court cases, are called forensic psychiatrists, who also treat mentally disordered offenders and other patients whose condition is such that they have to be treated in secure units.[2][3]

12. Mental Health on the Internet
October 26, 2009
By no means a new concept, Sigmund Freud used letters to augment and continue therapy with his patients who were at a distance, so outpatient therapy is not really a new concept. In fact, as stated in an article from the British Broadcasting Center online therapy "more than doubled the chances of recovery." This is an incredible statement and a resounding vote of confid... 15. Things You Need to Know About Fighting Dogs
September 24, 2009
Fighting dogs are the ones that cause their owners the most worry.
