A pub crawl (sometimes called a bar tour or bar-hopping) is the act of one or more people drinking in a number of pubs in a single night, normally walking between them. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term (including variations like "gin crawl" and "beer crawl") has been in use since the late 19th century. Many European cities have public pub crawls that act as social gatherings for the local expat communities and tourists. These pub crawls focus on the social aspect of meeting new friends and being introduced to new bars in a strange city. Examples of these include the FunkyParis [1] pub crawl in Paris, the Berlin pub crawl, the FunkyRiviera pub crawls in Nice and Cannes, the Colosseum pub crawl in Rome [2], and the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl, which is themed around the haunts of James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and Brendan Behan. Professional actors lead the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl and perform spirited selections from the works of Irish writers[1].[citation needed] Smaller sized gatherings for pub crawls are also growing in popularity in the United States in which nationalities participate. The city that held the Guinness World Record for the largest pub crawl ever held was London, England (2,278 people) in an event organised by Tim The Tourman.[2] As well, many cities in the United States have had pub crawls in recent years. In the greater Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, thousands of people have attended the Wolski's Pub Crawl, the Bay View Pub Crawl, and the zombie pub crawls. The Rich and Bennett Annual St. Patricks Day Pub Crawl in Charlotte, NC claims to be host to the largest Pub Crawl in the World. The annual event was host to 3,581 crawlers on Saturday March 15th 2008. San Diego held 3 annual "Stay Classy"[3] pub crawls in which the proceeds go to charity. The event grew in popularity so fast, that the old format had to be changed for 2008 to a "Jam"[4].

1. Spanish Tapas
September 17, 2008
Now, I'm not what you'd call a 'Big Bloke', but I do like my food and I especially like Spanish Tapas which are essentially small tasty snacks served with drinks in Spanish bars and cafes. Rather than dine in a single place, the ever-social Spaniards go out for Tapas. You could call it the Iberian equivalent of a 'Pub Crawl', but without the falling over bit at the end of the evening. There are many different styles and varieties of Tapas, many taking the flavour of locally available ingredients and tastes. Widely consumed all over the Iberian peninsula, Tapas are now also enjoyed by diners a... (read more)

July 13, 2008
It seems like every time I visit our AdSense colleagues in the Dublin office, I get invited out to celebrate a birthday or a promotion with that great Dublin tradition: the pub crawl. Today I'd like to dedicate a few words to another pub crawl. (I can hear your groans throughout the blogosphere.) That's right, I'm talking about the AdSense "publisher" crawl.
As you may know, it's important to allow the AdSense crawler access to the pages that display your ads. If our crawler can't see the content of your pages, your ad targeting may suffer, and with it your earnings. It's also important t... (read more)
