A public house, informally known as a pub, is a drinking establishment licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises in countries and regions of British influence. [1][2] Although the terms often have different connotations, there is little definitive difference between pubs, bars, inns, taverns and lounges where alcohol is served commercially. A pub that offers lodging may be called an inn or (more recently) hotel in the UK. Today, many pubs in the UK, Canada and Australia with the word "inn" or "hotel" in their name no longer offer accommodation, or in some cases have never done so. Some pubs bear the name of "hotel" because they are in countries where stringent anti-drinking laws were once in force. In Scotland until 1976 [3], and in Wales until 2003 [4], only hotels could serve alcohol on Sundays. There are approximately 53,500[5] public houses in the United Kingdom. In many places, especially in villages, a pub can be the focal point of the community, so there is concern that more pubs are closing down than new ones opening.[6] The history of pubs can be traced back to Roman taverns,[7] through the Saxon alehouse, to the development of the modern tied house system - a period of huge growth in the number of drinking establishments. There are approximately 53,500[8] public houses in the United Kingdom; a number that declines every year, so that nearly half of the smaller villages no longer have a local pub.[9] In many places, especially in villages, a pub can be the focal point of the community. The writings of Samuel Pepys describe the pub as the heart of England.

November 19, 2009
U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith says he's a "glass half-full" kind of guy. But as a $1.1 trillion health care reform plan passed the House of Representatives late Saturday night, he found it difficult to muster much optimism.
"Saturday was probably, in my 15 years in public office, my most discouraging day," Smith said in an interview with The Independent's editorial board on Friday. "I didn't feel good about the direction of America, and that this huge bureaucratic monstrosity was likely to prevail that evening."
Now, as the Senate considers its own version of the reform bill and the House ... (read more)

November 18, 2009
District 22 Representative Pete Olson has issued a statement in opposition to the $1 trillion health care bill that passed the House Saturday by a 220-215 vote.
The bill requires individuals to have health insurance and larger businesses to provide health insurance for employees. It also includes a public option that is not tied to Medicare. Most of the cost is due to subsidies to help low- and middle-income people pay for insurance.

November 12, 2009
The final changes to the Companies Act 2006, which came into force on 1 October 2009, means it will now be possible for a UK company director to limit the circumstances in which their residential address is made available in the public domain. Previously, company directors of UK companies had to file their residential address, along with their company accounts, at Companies House, a government agency, which provides information for public review. This had long been a concern to many company directors - particularly those operating in sensitive sectors, celebrities and other high-profile indivi... (read more)

9. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF NOT BUYING AN ELECTRIC FLY KILLER!
November 12, 2009
In my student days I spent the majority of the long summer break working at my Aunt’s Pub, The Red Lion, an establishment serving fine beers and traditional bar meals. It quickly became clear to me that if you own a catering business or public house, one of the best things you can ever buy is an Electric Fly Killer. Q1 – Why was an Electric Fly Killer needed? Well, as it became hotter during the summer months, the fly situation became a huge problem. As I am sure you are aware, the Pub at the time was not as hygienic as it could and should have been. As flies carry bacteria, t... (read more)

When House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled the final version of the health care reform bill, North Alabama Congressman Parker Griffith wasted no time in sharing his opinion about it.
He issued a press release shortly after its delivery that he was against House Bill 3200.
"As I began to read the bill, it became clear that a government-run public option would remain the foundation of the legislation's aim," said Griffith, D-Huntsville, a retired doctor.

11. Troubled Actors
November 11, 2009
There are so many actors who lead troubled lives that I just had to do some digging around for some samples.
Here’s what I found:
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen What happened to baby Michelle? These girls probably weighed more when they were on Full House than they do now. Mary-Kate seems to be the more troubled of the two, at least according to public knowledge. She has suffered from anorexia and drug abuse and it has been said that she could have been responsible for supplying Heath Ledger with the drugs that killed him.
Tom Sizemore Tom starred in Saving Private Ryan and Natu... (read more)

November 05, 2009
The Republican Party has spent the past several months serving as vocal opposition to the healthcare reform bills supported by the Barack Obama administration and Democratic members of Congress. During that time, they have seen success in influencing public opinion. However, many were frustrated that Republicans hadn't offered their own plan. Surely they didn't believe that the health insurance system in the U.S. is perfect the way it is? Well, the wait is over. 14. Is Abortion Going To Stop Healthcare Reform In Its Tracks?
November 05, 2009
Healthcare reform seems to be moving along in Congress. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi appears to have a majority of Democratic representatives on board, while Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is on his way to getting 60 votes in the Senate. However, there is one major issue that has the potential to derail Democrats' reform efforts: abortion. Some pro-life Democrats in Congress, like Rep. Bart Stupak are worried that the current bill will force the government to pay for abortions. It isn't a direct payment to providers that they're concerned with; rather, it's a seemingly benign subsidy m... (read more)

15. Will Healthcare Reform Cost Democrats Congress?
November 04, 2009
The Democratic party has made comprehensive healthcare reform its top priority this year. A majority of Democrats in the House of Representatives are backing Speaker Nancy Pelosi's proposal. One of its provisions is the creation of a government-run insurance plan, otherwise known as a public option, to compete with private insurers. A similar program is included in the Senate's reform bill. While the public option is supported by liberal Democrats, some conservative Democrats have concerns. Among other things, they are worried that pushing reform through will lead to the Democrats losing contr... (read more)

16. Ways of Marketing your Home
November 02, 2009
The desire to sell a home should be followed by deliberate action to let the public know about it. Advertisement offers the owner an avenue to communicate. The type of advertisement selected is very important as an agent of sale. Who is to do the advertising is determined by who is selling the house. If the owner is 'going it alone', then they should hire an advertising agent for themselves. On the other hand, if it's an agent selling the property, then the agent selects the type of advertising to be adopted.
