The Pulitzer Prize (pronounced /'p?l?ts?r/)[1] is a U.S. award for achievements in newspaper journalism, literature and musical composition. It was established by Hungarian-American publisher Joseph Pulitzer and is administered by Columbia University in New York City.

Prizes are awarded yearly in twenty-one categories. In twenty of these, each winner receives a certificate and a US$10,000 cash award.[2] The winner in the public service category of the journalism competition is awarded a gold medal, which always goes to a newspaper, although an individual may be named in the citation.

The 2009 Prize winners and finalists were announced April 20.[3]

The Pulitzer Prize does not automatically evaluate all applicable works in the media, but only those that have been entered with a $50 entry fee[4] (one per desired entry category). Entries must also fit in at least one of the specific prize categories, and cannot simply gain entrance on the grounds of having general literary or compositional properties.[4] Works can also only be entered into a maximum of two prize categories, regardless of their properties.

Coming on strong after the success of his Pulitzer Prize-winning Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond's new book, Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed is a tome of intriguing insight to the other side of the coin. While Guns, Germs and Steel examined how some societies thrived, due to their respective geographic and environmental endowments, this book examines why ancient societies have collapsed so often in the past, in part for the same reasons. To support this thesis, the book delves into a variety of past civilizations, including the Anasazi of the American Southwest, the M... (read more)

May 19, 2009

Many people may tends to buy stock, fund or even national debt as means of capital investment, while some born chic born genre women prefer to spend on Hermes Birkin bags, which are depicted as a symbol of excess by Pulitzer prize winner Lucinda Franks. It seems that they are splurge and extravagant to put so much on the luxury, but to me, they are rather money-wise. Because Hermes handbag is one of the few brands of handbag to either hold or increase in value with time, and thus is given the distinction of being considered as "investment quality" products. Will Durant, the Pulitzer Prize winning philosopher once said “Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.” It is this ‘awareness’ of all that you don’t know and the realizing how much limitless knowledge is out there yet to be absorbed that is the greatest gift earning a bachelor’s degree gives you. Of course there are purely pragmatic reasons to get a college education and earn a bachelor’s degree. We’ve all read that those with a bachelor’s degree earn on average 40% more than those with just a high school education. We also know certain jobs require a bachelor’s degree i... (read more)

12. How can you Achieve Article Marketing Success without Original Articles
September 17, 2008

The most common reason for those that are not using the most effective way to market online today, i.e. article marketing, is that they CANNOT write their own articles. In my book this is just one more lame excuse for not taking positive action to attain success online. Sure, there are times when the creative juices have slowed to a halt, but even this is not a good enough reason not to submit articles on a weekly basis. I personally am not about to win the Pulitzer prize for literature anytime soon, but I can get an article in front of 1000s of eyes and on 100s of websites if I... (read more)
