Coordinates 53°45'N 71°59'W? / ?53.75, -71.983Quebec is Canada's largest province by area and its second-largest administrative division; only the territory of Nunavut is larger. It is bordered to the west by the province of Ontario, James Bay and Hudson Bay, to the north by Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay, to the east by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick. It is bordered on the south by the U.S. states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. It also shares maritime borders with Nunavut, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Quebec is the second most populous province, after Ontario. Most inhabitants live in urban areas near the Saint Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City, the capital. English-speaking communities and English-language institutions are concentrated in Montreal but are also significantly present in the Outaouais, the Eastern Townships, and Gaspé regions. The central and northern portion of the province is sparsely populated and inhabited primarily by Aboriginal peoples. While the province's substantial natural resources have long been the mainstay of its economy, sectors of the knowledge economy such as aerospace, information and communication technologies, biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry also play leading roles.[8]

At least three great nations fought to possess the beautiful and rich land of Canada. These were France, Great Britain, and America. 6. 10 Steps to a Stone Retaining Wall
September 16, 2008
Building a stone retaining wall can be an intimidating prospect for a first-timer, but if you break it down into single steps and pay attention to detail, you’ll end up with a good looking, functional result.
Before you get started, remember to pay attention to your own safety. Wear steel-toed work boots and safety gloves. If you’re using a chipping hammer or anything else that could produce flying debris, wear safety goggles too.
Once you’re dressed to work, here’s what you do:
1. Check the soil at your work site to see if you have a wet area. If you do, make sure to drai... (read more)

7. Belugas, Humpbacks, Minkes and a Fin at Tadoussac
September 09, 2008
Whale watching from Tadoussac at the mouth of the Saguenay fjord out into the Gulf of St. Lawrence is some experience! Due to extremely high tides from the Atlantic Ocean all the way inland through the Gulf of the St. Lawrence to the mouth of the Saguenay fjord, the water is 97% salt.
As the salt water pushes down the full 100+ km. length of the Saguenay, and is topped with the inflowing water from Lac St. Jean, the resulting 50% saline water gives birth to myriads of small fish and plankton. Whales feast on those, consuming from 2 to 5 tons average per day, depending on size and specie... (read more)

9. Quebec; a Sixteenth Century Jewel
September 09, 2008
We stepped into the sixteenth century, my daughter and I. The city of Quebec is celebrating its four hundred’s anniversary and we relished in their celebrations. We delved into historical monuments, ramparts, archeological digs, theatrical depictions of victories and defeats, and the yummy local French cuisine. After its founder, Samuel de Champlain, set up a fur trading post in 1608, Quebec surrounded itself with ramparts. From its high promontory it had a strategic view over the majestic St. Lawrence River split in two by the island of “L’île d’Orleans”. Upper Town housed the seats of go... (read more)

10. Today's Selling Market is Not Easy! - hypotheque quebec
September 09, 2008
There exists two different types of markets in real estate: the seller’s market and the buyer’s market. The seller’s market makes it easy for a seller to sell his home because credit is loose and buyers are anxious to buy before prices rise further - hypotheque. In a buyer’s market, there are few qualified buyers, and a lot of homes to choose from, so those buyers can afford to be extremely demanding in terms of both price and other concessions. The current real estate market is a strong buyer’s market. This doesn’t mean that you won’t sell in a buyer’s market, but it means that it is ... (read more)

11. Sub Prime Borrowers are Facing Problems - hypotheques quebec
August 29, 2008
The loose credit of the early part of this century is haunting us as many people with poor credit were given mortgages and at this point millions of them have faced or will be facing foreclosure. No down payment home loans, with adjustable rates (sometimes teaser rates) to attract business but still elevated because of the borrower’s poor credit) seemed like a perfect solution. But the value of the underlying collateral, the home, is falling fast, and these loans have no equity because of no deposit. Some of these mortgages could have rates approaching 10%, which translates to over $2... (read more)

12. Can a Sub Prime Borrower Still Get a Home Loan? -taux hypothecaire quebec
August 26, 2008
Generally speaking, there are two types of mortgage borrowers: prime and sub prime. Borrowers with good credit scores and a minimal amount of debt that is kept current are considered prime borrowers and they therefore qualify for better rates. If the opposite is true, that is, the borrower has a low credit score, too much debt, and a history of late payments, he will be marked as sub prime. As a rule of thumb, a lender will consider a borrower with a credit score that is less than 660 and more than two payments that have been more than 30 days overdue in the last year, and debt to income r... 15. A Perfect Evening
June 23, 2008
Picture this if you will. Sunset, the witching hour. A back yard somewhere in Quebec. A mass of greenery, could be deepest Vermont. Fresh, not a hint of mugginess, could be high up in the Yorkshire Dales. The light is magic, Tuscan almost. A simple meal. Mediterranean, almost. Demi salade niçoise. Lettuce, cucumber, black olives, white tuna, olive oil. No anchovies, no tomatoes. Didn’t fancy hitting the market today. Croutons, because yesterday’s baguette was a hard as a sidewalk. A drop of icy Portuguese rosé. Eat your heart out, Paul Bocuse. No backdrop of pastel colored hou... (read more)

17. Socialism? Where are the benifits?
June 10, 2008
I have a problem with a society that gives a stiffer punishment of jail time to someone who tries to evade paying their taxes than they do to someone who rapes a dozen little girls. I find that with each passing month I learn more tidbits about my lovely province [Quebec] that bring forth a feeling of more than a slight twinge of disdain for socialism. I'm all for helping out others and sharing and being kind etc, but should the government really step their foot into every aspect of our lives and make giving money for the society to benefit from a chore or burden rather than something people... 21. Review of the Ike Quebec CD Heavy Soul
March 12, 2008
Very talented Jazz artist Ike Quebec has released him latest album titled Heavy Soul and Wow! It’s really a good one.
I wish it weren’t the case but, it’s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Heavy Soul. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.
One of the nicer things about a CD like this is when the talent is this rich even if Jazz isn’t your favorite genre y... (read more)

22. Meadowvale Village - Ontario's First Heritage Conservation District
March 11, 2008
While many cities in Canada can boast roots that go right back into the 18th and even 17th centuries, not many can point to physical evidence of their long lives that still remain. Most of the towns and cities in Canada that have been long established are located in Ontario and Quebec, and for the most part they are today major cities (one thinks of Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City, for example). While these cities still retain many of their old town characteristics, much of the physical building that occurred in their infancy has been replace by more modern structure.
