The Ramones were an American rock band often regarded as the first punk rock group. [1][2] Formed in Forest Hills, Queens, New York in 1974, all of the band members adopted pseudonyms ending with the surname "Ramone", though none of them were actually related. They performed 2,263 concerts, touring virtually nonstop for 22 years. [2] In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, the band played a farewell show and disbanded. [3] A little more than eight years after the breakup, the band's three founding members—lead singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone, and bassist Dee Dee Ramone—were dead. [4][5][6]The Ramones were a major influence on the punk rock movement both in the United States and the United Kingdom, though they achieved only minor commercial success. Their only record with enough U.S. sales to be certified gold was the compilation album Ramones Mania.[7] Recognition of the band's importance built over the years, and they are now cited in many assessments of all-time great rock music, such as the Rolling Stone lists of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time[8] and VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.[9] In 2002, the Ramones were ranked the second greatest band of all time by Spin magazine, trailing only The Beatles.[10] On March 18, 2002, the Ramones—including the three founders and drummers Marky and Tommy Ramone—were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[2][11] The original members of the band met in and around the middle-class neighborhood of Forest Hills in the New York City borough of Queens. John Cummings and Thomas Erdelyi had both been in a high-school garage band in 1966–67 known as the Tangerine Puppets.[12] They became friends with Douglas Colvin, who had recently moved to the area from Germany.[13] Jeffrey Hyman was in the short-lived early 1970s glam rock band Sniper.[14] The Ramones began taking shape in early 1974 when Cummings and Colvin invited Hyman to join them in a band. The initial lineup featured Colvin on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Cummings on lead guitar, and Hyman on drums. Colvin, who soon switched from rhythm guitar to bass, was the first to adopt the name Ramone, dubbing himself Dee Dee Ramone. He was inspired by Paul McCartney's use of the pseudonym Paul Ramon during his Silver Beatles days.[15][16] Dee Dee convinced the other members to take on the name and came up with the idea of calling the band the Ramones.[17] Hyman and Cummings became Joey Ramone and Johnny Ramone, respectively.[17]

1. PUNK ROCK ORIGINS
August 26, 2009
Punk rock was initially used to refer to the garage musicians of in the 1960's. These are bands like the Sonics who when they were starting out, had no musical or vocal instruction, and often limited skill. With limited knowledge in the rules of music, they were able to create a different kind of genre. The mid to late '60s was when the Stooges and the MC5 in Detroit emerged. Often, their concerts were political and produced violent affairs. Andy Warhol was responsible for the Velvet Underground who produced revolutionary music. The final primary influence is found in the foundations of G... (read more)

October 24, 2008
Against Me! tickets tickets can be bought or sold online at StubHub.com.When the Ramones first hit the stage, no one expected those three bowl-cut-wearing youths playing amateurishly fast and loud music would change rock as we knew it. Their lyrics sounded brain-dead, and their music was pure adrenaline. In time, the sound would become harder, and the lyrics more provocative. The band’s that rose up in the initial wake of punk blended modern anger with the sense of injustice that the protest singers of the ‘60s shared (though they have bristled at the comparison).Flash forward to the ‘00s, when... 3. Rock and Punk bands names & logos
October 20, 2008
The Ramones. It seems that they were inspired by Paul McCartney, who used Ramone as a surname; then all the members of the band adopted this surname despite not being related. The logo was designed by Arturo Vega, sometime in the 70s; the concept was based on the Seal of the President of United States of America. The names of the band members replace the original legend around the eagle which holds an apple tree branch and a baseball bat instead of the olive tree branch and the arrows. Vega's inspiration came after seen them performing in Washington DC. The Who. While brainstorming f... (read more)

4. The Misfits Tickets—The horror-punk legends are back!
September 30, 2008
The Misfits tickets are now available and can be bought or sold online at StubHub.com.You hear stories. You read about them in magazines. A fashion article, perhaps, where a writer interviews someone on the street and asks them about their clothes. What’s that cool design on your shirt, someone is asked. That skull imprint? It’s from a label I like called "Misfits." (Similar stories have been written about teens hanging around The Ramones museum in Germany, baffled. But why is there a museum for it? they ask the curator. We just thought that logo was an H+M design.)It’s been more than 20 years... (read more)

5. Blondie Biography And Top 10 Songs
April 09, 2008
There were two main reasons I started listening to Blondie and they were: first I thought Debbie Harry was amazingly beautiful and second the style of music they made. At the time I got into Blondie I was listening to a lot of punk and new wave stuff like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Sham 69, The Exploited, Ramones, Ian Dury, The Stranglers, etc... and it also helped me to annoy my parents. I actually used to like putting posters on my wall when I was a kid at school and one of my posters was a full size poster of Debbie Harry.
Blondie are an American punk/new wave cross and were formed ... (read more)
