Rancho Murieta is a
census-designated place (CDP) and
guard-gated private community in
Sacramento County,
California,
United States. It is part of the
Sacramento–
Arden-Arcade–
Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,193 at the 2000 census. It is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, about 25&_160;miles (40&_160;km) east of Sacramento.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 11.9&_160;square miles (31.0&_160;km²), of which, 11.9&_160;square miles (30.8&_160;km²) of it is land and 0.1&_160;square miles (0.1&_160;km²) of it (0.42%) is water.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 4,193 people, 1,783 households, and 1,408 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 352.4 people per square mile (136.0/km²). There were 1,857 housing units at an average density of 156.1/sq&_160;mi (60.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.03% White, 1.93% African American, 0.36% Native American, 2.72% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.07% from other races, and 2.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.63% of the population.
