We’re able to explain the electrical process in detail and we have full access to electricity using it to accomplish our every desire and need. However, how much thought have we given to finding out from where electricity originates? What or who is the actual source of electricity? These questions deserve serious consideration because electricity is of great import to our world. Since we’ve all experienced the chaos and total disruption caused by blackouts and power outages, another question to consider is what would be the result of a total power outage that disables the entire world???
One of my favorite movies of all times is “The Day the Earth Stood Still” made in 1951. The plot involves an alien named Klaatu who comes to Earth to warn mankind about their hostile tendencies that hinder the presence of lasting peace. The possibility of extending this aggression beyond Earth as a result of space exploration was Klaatu’s major concern. Thus, he said if Earth’s leaders weren’t willing to discuss this, the only alternative would be the complete extermination of the planet.
The initial response by Earth’s leaders was an unwillingness to come together and discuss the matter so a famous scientist pleads with Klaatu asking if it would be possible to present a global demonstration of prowess that would be impossible to ignore. Klaatu accommodates the professor’s request by cutting off all power on the Earth resulting in a total paralysis of all life’s activities as people wandered around helplessly in utter confusion. Hence, the day the earth stood still!
A Word about Electricity
In the movie, Klaatu cuts earth’s power by neutralizing the flow of electricity. In an article I read on the “How Stuff Works” website entitled “How Electricity Works”1, electricity was explained as a "ubiquitous (seemingly present everywhere at the same time) form of energy resulting from the motion of charged particles (electrons)". This article presents a detailed summation on the history of electricity, how it works and the components involved. Nevertheless, even after clearly explaining electricity in a comprehensible manner, there still exists an aura of mysticism and vagueness surrounding it. We begin to realize that important questions still remain: WHERE does electricity come from and what is the SOURCE of this power?
I believe God, our Father, is the source of electricity as it is an integral part of His Holy Spirit. In the Bible, much is said about God’s Word, how He spoke it and everything was created. In other words, all creations within the entire spectrum of life are an instantaneous result of God’s Spoken Word through His Son, Jesus Christ, powered by His Holy Spirit. Thus, if God removes His Word from our presence, EVERYTHING will come to a grinding halt!
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: . . .” COLOSSIANS 1:16, KJV Electricity (God’s spoken Word) is transmitted by a conductor (His Holy Spirit) to produce a final result or action. With this in mind, consider this verse:
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” ISAIAH 55:11, KJV This is precisely what electricity does: once generated, its current continues as its goal is accomplished! Now, consider this passage from the eighth chapter of the Book of Amos in the Bible:
“11.Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12.And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.” AMOS 8:11 – 12, KJV In this passage, God describes a specific time when He’ll remove His Word and mankind will be unable to find or hear it. To be clear, these words were spoken to Amos with specific reference to the rebellious nation of Israel. However, I’ve found no mention in the Bible or in the history of this world that this event has yet occurred. Since God makes it clear that He doesn’t speak His Words pointlessly, and these verses are written in the future tense, it warrants our attention.
There are numerous warnings in the Bible against the human race’s unwillingness to accept God and these verses in Amos are clearly one of these warnings. God makes it abundantly clear that He will not allow our destructive behavior to continue and He’ll eventually intervene.
We’ve already had a taste of what it’s like when power outages happen: total chaos follows leaving us helpless and vulnerable. Therefore, I think it behooves us to think about what it would be like if our world was suddenly plunged into total darkness. I believe this is exactly how it will be if God decides to remove His Word from our lives.
As it was in the movie, God has also sent a messenger to us: His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Also, just as the inhabitants of Earth in the movie turned a deaf ear to Klaatu, a good majority of mankind has refused to listen to Jesus Christ. Thus, another fact to ponder is God has a plan that includes several events to occur as documented in the Bible that mankind will be unable to ignore. In my website, I discuss these momentous events in detail and inform people that every person on Earth who's alive at that time will be involved! I urge my readers to visit my website entitled THE WORLD OR GOD? and read about these significant events destined to occur.
Kindly keep this final word in mind:
” . . . , for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.” Psalms 96:13, KJV
