These cause a twisting motion which allows the spirochaete to move about. When reproducing, a spirochaete will undergo asexual transverse binary fission. Most spirochaetes are free-living and anaerobic, but there are numerous exceptions. The spirochetes are divided into three families (Brachyspiraceae, Leptospiraceae, and Spirochaetaceae), all placed within a single order (Spirochaetales). Disease-causing members of this phylum include the following

1. What is Lyme Disease and Symptoms of Lyme Disease
June 29, 2008
Lyme disease (LD) is a multi-system bacterial infection caused by a the spirochete Borrelia burgdoferi (Bb). The pathogen was named in honor of the discoverer and a founding board member of the Lyme Disease Foundation, Willy Burgdorfer, PhD, MD (hon).
The investigators discovered that most of the affected children lived near wooded areas likely to harbor ticks. They also found that the children's first symptoms typically started in the summer months coinciding with the height of the tick season.

2. Complete Information on Bejel
May 13, 2008
Bejel also called is endemic syphilis. Bejel is very common in dry, hot climates especially in the countries of the eastern Mediterranean region and in Saharan West Africa. Bejel is an infectious disease that is rare in the United States. Bejel is a chronic skin and tissue disease caused by infection by a subspecies of the spirochete Treponema pallidum. The infection is very similar to syphilis but is not sexually transmitted. Most frequently, transmission is by means of non-sexual skin contact or by common use of eating and drinking utensils. The organism that causes bejel belongs to the same... (read more)

3. Treatment - Lyme disease
March 28, 2008
Lyme disease is an inflammatory disease spread through a tick bite. Lyme disease is an infection caused by bacteria spirochete. The disease is carried by deer ticks and western black-legged ticks (found mostly on the Pacific Coast). These ticks can spread the disease to animals and humans through tick bites. Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the United States. Lyme disease is caused by an infection from a micro-organism (Borrelia burghdor feri), itself transmitted by a bite from the wood tick, a blood-sucking parasite which normally lives on deer. The wood tick is found in ... (read more)

4. Lyme Disease - Causes, Symptoms And Treatment
March 26, 2008
Lyme disease is an infection that is spread by ticks. You can get Lyme disease if you are bitten by an infected tick. But most people who have had a tick bite do not get Lyme disease. It’s still important to see your doctor if you have a tick attached to you that you can't remove. Lyme disease is a bacterial illness caused by a bacterium called a "spirochete." In the United States, the actual name of the bacterium is Borrelia burgdorferi. In Europe, another bacterium, Borrelia afzelii, also causes Lyme disease. Certain ticks found on deer harbor the bacterium in their stomachs. Lyme disea... (read more)

5. Lymes Disease and Pets
March 07, 2008
My research on lymes disease helped me found that this illness is not just limited to humans, and can equally harm pets. Several veterinarians and pet owners report lymes disease in cats, dogs, goats, cattle, sheep, and horses. Hence, it becomes vital for pets to avoid tick bites and receive punctual treatment for their lymes disease condition. Lymes disease is capable to affect individual pets differently. Certain pets flaunt no symptoms, while several others produce fever, painful joints, vomiting, tiredness, and loss of appetite. The spirochete may harm nervous system, heart, eyes, and k... 7. Lyme Disease - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment Methods
September 16, 2007
Lyme disease also called Lyme borreliosis, is an infection that derives from a tick bite. It is caused by a kind of bacteria (germ) called a spirochete. This bacterium is usually found in animals such as mice and deer. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks; laboratory testing is helpful in the later stages of disease. Most cases occur in the Northeast, upper Midwest, and along the Pacific coast. Mice and deer are the most commonly infected animals that serve as host to the tick. Most infections occur in th... Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness that causes signs and symptoms ranging from rash and flu-like fever and body aches to more serious ones including joint swelling, weakness, fatigue and temporary paralysis. What causes Lyme Disease: Lyme disease is mostly caused by the bite of an infected tick. Different ticks are carriers in the different regions. The 'deer tick' in the Northeast and midwest, The 'black-legged tick' in the South, The 'western black-legged tick' in the West, and The 'lone star tick' found in several regions are all considered as ly...
