EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: EVANDER HOLYFIELD By G. Leon GL: It's been a while since we've had you on Boxingtalk. Tell us about this fight with Sherman Williams and what we can expect to see from you on fight night? Evander Holyfield: "I'm in shape and I look forward to the fight. People will see a good showing from me.""I'm in shape and I look forward to the fight. People will see a good showing from me." GL: What are you hoping a victory over Williams leads to? Evander Holyfield: "Everything is about fighting for championships, so I'm looking to stay busy. I'm conditioned physically and mentally, so now it's just time to show everybody I still have it." GL: Is there a blueprint for 2011? EH: "I just got to keep fighting and stay busy, Greg. When I keep winning then they're going to have no choice but to take serious notice." GL: If you would not have gotten jobbed against Nikolai Valuev and became the WBA heavyweight champion of the world, and the oldest man to win the heavyweight championship, would you have retired? EH: "No. I would have tried to fight one of the Klitschko's. I don't want to do all that work to get one title and retire. If I'm just fighting looking to get one belt, there's no need for me to be fighting. That would have been the first belt, I would have just started working on putting the rest of the puzzle together." GL: How many more fights do you feel you need to win before you receive serious consideration for a major title shot? EH: "I don't know. I got to take it one fight at a time. Sometimes the one that looks good doesn't attract the biggest and right now nobody is trying to fight a world beater." GL: Do you expect Williams to go the distance? EH: "He's the type of guy who is accustomed to going the distance. Everybody they put in front of him, one thing he does, is stand there and fight to give the people what they want." GL: Closing thoughts? EH: "I'm ready and I look forward to putting on a good show!"
