Guilty Boxing in association with Lion Fight Promotions, has announced its first Full Muay Thai Rules event to take place at the Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nevada on February 12, 2011. Headlined as the main event is a professional bout between Filipino-American Michael Mananquil and Thai Legend Mongkhon “Malaipet” Wiwasuk, of which is a highly anticipated rematch by Muay Thai fans. The first match between Malaipet and Mananquil took place in Southern California on July 18, 2010. The results 48, 47 Mananquil; 48, 47 Malaipet; 49, 46 Malaipet, a split decision in favor of Malaipet, was controversial. The fight was regarded as a close match as the crowd felt “could have gone either way”. Malaipet walked away from the event as the WMC Welterweight United States Champion. Unbiased supporters expressed that “Mananquil may have won slightly on points or it should at least have resulted in a draw”. On the amateur card, many local fans are anticipating the match between Filipino-American Jason Andrada and his rival Anthony Castrejon. These two, both Las Vegas locals, have stirred up animosity towards each other for over three years, and have waited for the right opportunity to show the crowd who the better fighter is. On February 12, the audience will finally witness a match that supporters describe as long overdue. Mananquil and Andrada are two of the few Filipino-American Muay Thai Fighters in the U.S., each recognized as top competitors in their respective divisions on a national and international level. Mananquil is a professional welterweight (147 lbs) that holds multiple world titles sanctioned by IKKC, WBC and ISKA. Andrada is a young, fast rising amateur lightweight (125 lbs) who already holds multiple national and international titles sanctioned by USMF, WCSC, and IFMA. Lion Fight Promotions is led by former Las Vegas casino executive and Muay Thai enthusiast, Scott Kent. The new promotional company has been developed in consultation with Filipina-American Christine Toledo, one of the sport’s most popular champions and star of the reality television show (Oxygen Network’s “Fight Girls”) and documentary based on the women of Muay Thai. Both Kent and Toledo share a common passion for Muay Thai and are working together to promote the sport. For more information on Lion Fight Promotions, visit www.lionfightpromotions.com.
