Cricket is at its peak with the way things have transformed in last couple of years. People who were tired of watching the dominance of Australia in world cricket are now enthralled to see teams like India and England replacing the apex. Cricket is a game which acts as a common bond which unites people across the world having different views and beliefs. Countries like India have a huge fan following for this sport. Cricket is followed as a religion and cricketers are like idols. A cricketing event like ICC world cup is like a festival in cricket following countries like India or Sri Lanka. Fortunately ICC World Cup 2011 is scheduled to be played in the Indian subcontinent. So cricket doesn’t get bigger than this. India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would share the pleasure of hosting the biggest cricketing extravaganza. In total, 14 teams would be battling out to win the most prestigious cricket tournament. World Cup kicks off from 19th February 2011 with India taking on Bangladesh. Almost all the teams have announced their 15 man squad. The 14 teams are divided into two groups. Group A consists of teams like Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Canada, Kenya and Zimbabwe. Group B consists of India, Bangladesh, England, West Indies, South Africa, Ireland and Netherlands. Especially for India, this would probably be the last World Cup for a great batsman like Sachin Tendulkar. And the Indian team has created wonders in last two years under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. So the expectations are pretty high in India. Australia has probably seen their worst form this year if we look back at their cricketing history in last couple of decades. But we can’t write off them from the picture. Not to forget that they have clinched the last three World Cups on the trot. Teams like England, Sri Lanka and South Africa are also in the race. Pakistan team who faced a spot fixing saga last year are reviving slowly and have just clinched a test series in New Zealand. This edition would be a long one which would start on 19th February and last till 2nd April 2011. The final will be played at Mumbai on 2nd April.
