The MINI is a small car made by the British Motor Corporation from 1959 until 2000. The original MINI is a British icon of the 1960s and its space-saving front-wheel-drive layout influenced a generation of car-makers.
MINI’s reason for being produced was because of a fuel shortage caused by the 1956 Suez Crisis. Petrol was once again rationed in the UK, and sales of large cars dropped but the market for German bubble cars, a small economical automobile, boomed.
