The Temple in Jerusalem or Holy Temple (Hebrew ??? ?????, Bet HaMikdash&_160;; "The Holy House"), refers to a series of structures located on the Temple Mount (Har HaBayit) in the old city of Jerusalem. Historically, two temples were built at this location, and a future Temple features in Jewish eschatology. According to classical Jewish belief, the Temple (or the Temple Mount) acts as the figurative "footstool" of God's presence (Heb. "shechina") in the physical world.

The First Temple was built by King Solomon in seven years during the 10th century BCE, culminating in 960 BCE.[1] It was the center of ancient Judaism.[2] The Temple replaced the Tabernacle of Moses and the Tabernacles at Shiloh, Nov, and Givon as the central focus of Jewish faith. This First Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 587 BCE. Construction of a new temple was begun in 537 BCE; after a hiatus, work resumed 520 BCE, with completion occurring in 516 BCE and dedication in 515. As described in the Book of Ezra, rebuilding of the Temple was authorized by Cyrus the Great and ratified by Darius the Great. Five centuries later, this Second Temple was renovated by Herod the Great in about 20 BCE. It was subsequently destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE (see The Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE). All of the outer walls still stand, although the Temple itself has long since been destroyed, and for many years it was believed that the western wall of the complex was the only wall standing.

An Islamic shrine, the Dome of the Rock, has stood on the site of the Temple since the late 7th Century CE, and the al-Aqsa Mosque, from roughly the same period, also stands on the Temple courtyard.

Jewish eschatology envisions the construction of The Third Temple in Jerusalem associated with the coming of The Messiah, and thus, adherents of Orthodox and Conservative Judaism anticipate a Third Temple.

August 20, 2008

Tag:china toys, ancient Jerusalem,First Baptist From:http://www.buy-china-toys.com/ Many Cornwall children may never see Jerusalem, so the First Baptist Church on York Street has brought it to them to highlight its connection to Christianity. Church volunteers have recreated a bustling city block of the holy city right inside First Baptist for a week-long bible camp. It's complete with a dreidel workshop, a temple, a marketplace, a prison, a water well and many other elements to help transport the kids, who are even divided into actual Jewish tribes and dressed in period clothing. 4. What Is "Zion"?
May 15, 2008

Answer 1: "Zion" was the Jebusite stronghold at Jerusalem captured by King David of Israel about 1000B.C.( 2 Samuel|5:7 Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.) The name "Zion" is also applied to all of Jerusalem, and has been since the city fell to Nebuchadnezzar II in 586 B.C. "Zion" is Jerusalem. Zion is a place. 5. Will the pope act foolish or wisely?
April 25, 2008

Anything looted by the Romans during the destruction of the Temple and the razing of Jerusalem in 70 C.E. (Common Era), would have become the property by default to the Roman Catholic Cult. Undoubtedly some things were melted down, but others of great importance - like the Menorah - would have been treasured and kept, just like the former Babylonians had plenty that God saw to it was returned to Jerusalem (where they belong) when the Persians came to power. The contemptuous Babylonians who considered themselves heir of Jerusalem, with their own accursed replacement theology, made the le... (read more)

6. Comfort From His Coming
April 23, 2008

Jesus spoke of some of the trials of the End-times. He spoke of the wars and persecutions that must happen in the Last Days, and He spoke of the spreading of the Gospel that has already begun to happen, the Promise of His Return. When His disciples showed Him the wondrous architecture of the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus told them not one stone would be left upon another. Soon after this His disciples asked Him, "What is the Sign of your Coming, and the End of the Age?" "Take heed lest any should mislead you!" Jesus said, "For many shall come in my name, saying, 'I am the Chr... (read more)

7. Immersing For Mercy-Prophetic Baptism From Heaven
April 16, 2008

When Jesus taught in the temple in Jerusalem, His Authority was questioned. He asked in return about John the Baptist. His teaching was from Heaven and baptism predicting the End of the world is from God. The chief priests and elders of the people came forward while Jesus was preaching in the temple. "By what Authority do you do these things," they asked, "and who gave to you this Authority?" "I shall ask you also one Word," Jesus answered, "which if you tell me I will also tell you by what Authority I do these things. The baptism of John--where was it from? Was it from He... (read more)

8. Eternal Rewards and the Bible
January 05, 2008

A persistent, universal Biblical theme is the call for individuals ... to serve God (See Ex 23:25, Jn 12:26, Col 3:24, etc.). He has decided to employ people in promoting His agenda and goals. There are conditions to such employment, but the pay is unparalleled. Payments are in ... eternal rewards. "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me" (Rev 22:12). These rewards are incorruptible and eternal. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth ... but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or ste... (read more)

9. The Seal--The Templescent Becoming of the Sealed Person
November 23, 2007

The Seal marks your body as a holy house. When you are sealed your body becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit in a templescent becoming. You become one with God instead of one with anyone else. Jesus was condemned to death and died on the cross. He rose from the dead on the third day after His death. His body was a temple of the Holy Spirit. He spoke of it when He foretold His death. "Tear down this temple," Jesus told the religious authorities, "and I will build it again in three days." They authorities thought He was insane. How could one person build the magnificent templ... 10. The differences between menorah and Hanukkah menorah
July 04, 2007

The Menorah is a seven branched candelabrum to be light by olive oil in the tabernacle and the temple in Jerusalem. The Menorah is one of the oldest symbols of the Jews, it is said to symbolize the burning bash as seen by Moses on Mount Sinai. Symbolically, the Menorah represent the creation of the universe in seven days, the center light symbolizes the Shabbat. The seven branches are also the seven continents on earth and the seven heavens, guided by the light of God. As mentioned in the Zohar, "these lamps, like the plants above, receive their light from the sun", (Beha'a... 11. Major Upheaval in Israel?
May 01, 2007

Will an EARTHQUAKE shake Israel to its foundations and rock the world? Would the destruction of the Western/Wailing Wall and the demolition of the "Dome of the Rock" and Al-Aksa mosques—by an ACT OF GOD—serve further notice that it's time to build the Temple? The Western Wall would have served its purpose and an earthquake could clear the way for major changes. May the Israelis have a new attitude and act upon it, saying, "Let's move on up to where we should be praying: in the Temple upon the Temple Mount!" I believe a miracle - a supernatural disaster (a blessing in disguise) - will ta... (read more)

April 18, 2007

I read your article on Sabbath keeping and the holy days. I only can say that you are not required to keep them, according to Jewish law I realize according to traditional Jewish law they say it is not necessary, and some even say we should be put to death! However, the Word of God that such traditions woefully ignore reveal that God has given the holy days to Israel to share with the whole world as they represent God's plan of salvation for all mankind, even as the Third Temple will be a house of prayer for all peoples with no mention of division in Ezekiel between Gentiles and Israelite... 13. Jews, the Beast and False Prophet, and Rome's Destruction
February 08, 2007

If the Jews fail to take their warnings seriously about imminent EU occupation of Jerusalem and Europe's wannabe divine emperor polluting the Third Temple, the Temple of God will be desecrated by the son of perdition, the so-called Antichrist. Yet it is precisely because it is the Temple of God that Satan and his slaves covet it with a passion and have their evil eye on Jerusalem. I strongly disagree with the Roman Catholic Cult (if you haven't noticed), but I know the Catholics themselves believe they will have a "false pope" (or whatever they call him). It appears such a "false pope" (al... (read more)

14. Israeli appreciation for Christian Zionists?
December 25, 2006

Israel could start to show their appreciation for Christian Zionists by ending the Nazi-Muslim occupation of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. A House of Prayer for All Peoples? Israel must stop Muslim religious discrimination against Christians and Jews! The wicked Wakf (the hostile Muslim authorities) illegally forbids Christians from praying or reading the Bible upon the Temple Mount where Yeshua and His students taught and prayed and worshipped. The Temple Mount is supposedly Judaism's holiest site but you couldn't tell it due to their woeful neglect of it and consequent default... (read more)

December 19, 2006

[Click on the ad to enlarge it] It grieves me to report for the record, for the sake of the Church of God history, that too often politics has impeded the progress of the Work of God. The following is typical of the attitude I encountered when I shared my dreams for God's Church to reach out to Judah, informing them (the Philadelphia Church of God) of what I was doing: Judean Voice Ad [The Judean Voice was a strong Jewish magazine read throughout New York City and Israel that taught the plain truth of the Torah as shared by former Israeli parliament member and rabbi, Meir ... 17. Woe to Ariel (Jerusalem to suffer EU occupation)
December 12, 2006

Isaiah 29:1 Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! Carl Sandburg, an American writer warned: "If America forgets where she came from...if she listens to the deniers and mockers, then will begin the rot and dissolution." The same principle applies to our Jewish brethren in Israel. The most merciful God of Jacob-Israel resurrected the nation of Israel from the graveyard of history and offered us a new opportunity to fulfill our unique calling to become a model nation, a kingdom of priests, a light to all nations, based upon the Law and the Prophets. Yet secular Je... (read more)

18. Holy Jerusalem and the Temple of God
November 24, 2006

Speaking of some of the saints who were temporarily restored to physical life to testify about Yeshua's resurrection, after jealous Jewish leaders delivered Him to the bloody Romans to murder, we find, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit: Matthew 27:53 ...and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into THE HOLY CITY and appeared to many. 19. Restore Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount
November 19, 2006

The Wakf, the militant Muslim authority that oversees Jerusalem's Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site and Islam's alleged third holiest site (following Mecca and Medina) continue to show blatant disregard for Jewish, Christian and biblical history and non-Muslim sensitivities. Matti Friedman's AP article - "At Temple Mount Holy Site, What Is Treasure?" - exposes how the Wakf engaged in unsupervised and illegal gouging of the Temple Mount (the holy site of both Solomon's Temple and Zerubbabel Temple enlarged by Herod that Jesus and the apostles worshipped in), removing tons of its historic... 20. Israel's Betrayal of the Jews
November 02, 2006

After reading Germany's Betrayal of the Jews by Wolf Biermann, I felt blah, blah, blah. Didn't Hitler warn the European Jews? Didn't Jabotinsky warn the European Jews? The Jews today are in a position to determine their life or death, blessings or curses and needn't blame others for all their ills. There are problems and there are biblical solutions, as Meir Kahane courageously taught (Malachi 4:4). What's a Jew still living in Germany for? Has he learned nothing from the Holocaust? Why not repent of the godless Communism (disproportionately Jewish, grieved to say) and become a religiou... (read more)

21. Muslims prevent Christians from praying where Jesus prayed
September 28, 2006

“Walk where Jesus walked, pray where Jesus prayed, stand where He stood. There is no other place like it on earth,” said Pat Robertson, American televangelist and former presidential candidate as part of a new advertising campaign paid for by Israel to promote tourism in the country.” (The Jerusalem Post, 9/28/06) I encourage every Christian to visit the Holy Land of Israel and urge every Jew to follow Judaism to the Jewish homeland. September 14, 2006

September 14, 2006 Psalms 134:3 The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion. At the end of their visit to Jerusalem for one of the thrice-yearly pilgrimage, the priests pronounced this blessing on the pilgrims returning home to the four corners of the orient. The pilgrimage was motivated by much more than the desire to see the holy sights and the tombs of the patriarchs. It was not a touristy visit to the Holy Land. Like the longing of the homing pigeon to return to its place, this pilgrimage was motivated by the longing of the human soul to return to the presenc... (read more)

September 13, 2006

September 13, 2006 Psalms 134:2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. The fourth chapter of the book of Revelations tells us of the throne of God. In front of the throne was an altar ablaze with a perpetual fire (Revelations 8:3). The throne is surrounded by four winged beasts full of eyes before and behind that rest not day or night from praising the God of heaven (Revelations 4:6-9). September 12, 2006

September 12, 2006 NOTE: From 120 to 134 the psalms are called ‘songs of degree”. These songs were sung by the pilgrims as they traveled on their thrice yearly pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The 134th Psalm is the last one of the songs of degree. When pilgrims left Jerusalem at the break of dawn, they were moved by the sight of the light emanating from the chambers of the priests who tended to the temple during the night watches. 25. Israeli Jews must reclaim Holy Land occupied by Roman Catholics
September 02, 2006

The Vatican again exposes its inherent hostility towards Jews and Israel by railing against Christian Zionists. In light of the Vatican's recent outburst, venomous against Israel and those who prefer it to an accursed "Palestine," Israel would be wise to reclaim those areas of the Holy Land of Israel that "Edom" presently occupies and restore them to proper Jewish hands. Why should the Israelis permit such sworn enemies to have a foothold in Jerusalem upon Mount Zion (or anywhere in the Jewish Homeland) with their evil eye upon the Temple Mount? Israel must demand the return of the ... (read more)
