October 27, 2009
The Rotator Cuff is compiled of 4 muscles connected to your shoulder blade which meets at the arm bone, the "Humerus".These are called the Supraspinatus,Infraspinatus, Teres Minor and Subscapularis. They all purposely inserting in different areas of the scapula on one side. Now with such a complicated grouping, to provide stability to the arm movement, such as elevations and rotations. It can be hard to get motivated and feel as if you can recover. But ALL rotator cuff injuries can be cured with the proper rehab and excersises..

11. Understanding Pain in the Cuff
March 23, 2009
Rotator cuff injuries, such as tendonitis, bursitis and rotator cuff tears affect so many people. Lets first understand what the rotator cuff is. The rotator cuff consists of four small muscles, which form a sleeve around the shoulder, this allows us to raise our arm overhead effectively. These muscles, consisting of the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis, oppose the action of the deltoid and depress the head of the humerus (upper arm) during shoulder elevation to prevent impingement.
It is a known fact that the most commonly injured muscle is the supraspinatus. I... (read more)

12. Neck pain| shoulder| abduction
June 15, 2007
Neck pain| shoulder| abduction to 90°
When you want to move your arm to 90° away from the side of the body, this movement is primarily performed by the deltoid muscle assisted by the supraspinatus. Abduction of the arm to 90° have to be accompanied by external rotation of the shoulder. This is performed by the infraspinatus and teres minor. Infraspinatus and teres minor muscles are also assisted by the subscapularis muscle whose action is to depress the humerus. The infraspinatus muscle is supplied by the C5 and C6 nerve roots through the suprascapular nerve of the upper trunk of... (read more)

13. Neck pain| shoulder abduction
June 15, 2007
Neck pain| shoulder abduction
Neck pain due to irritation of C5 and C6 nerve roots can cause pain and spasm in the shoulder abductor muscles. The shoulder muscles responsible for shoulder abduction are: - deltoid (the middle deltoid is the only muscle that can abduct the shoulder with the shoulder in internal rotation). The deltoid is supplied by the axillary nerve (C5, C6) from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus - infraspinatus, supplied by the suprascapular nerve C5, C6 from the upper trunk of the brachial plexus. - Teres minor supplied by the axil... 14. neck pain| nerve levels| C6
May 24, 2007
Sensation: Outer aspect of the forearm supplied by the musculocutaneous nerve. Muscles: The following muscles have C5 and C6 nerve root innervation but most of them may have stronger C6 nerve root innervation in some individuals. The muscles in the forearm such as the extensor carpi radialis brevis and the pronator teres are C7 nerve root dominant. The clinical and dissection anatomy photographs of the muscles supplied by the C5 and C6 nerve roots listed below can be located in the book index as well is in previous posts under upper body topics. C6 is the most commonly injured nerve roo... (read more)

15. Shoulder pain: The role of teres major as a helper to latissimus dorsi
May 10, 2007
Shoulder pain can occur with pain and spasm in the teres major. This is one of the three muscles that perform shoulder extension, the other two being deltoid and latissimus dorsi muscles. It is therefore exposed to frequent lengthening contractions and prone to injury giving rise to shoulder pain. Teres major arises from the back of the lower angle of the shoulder blade bone and attaches to the inner lip of the groove on the arm bone along which the tendon of the biceps muscle passes through. This groove is called the bicipital groove and on the outer aspect of this groove is attachment ... (read more)

16. Rotator cuff muscles|shoulder pain (2): Infraspinatus
May 10, 2007
Shoulder pain symptoms are commonly associated with a rotator cuff problem. The infraspinatus is the largest of the three muscles comprising the rotator cuff, the other two being supraspinatus and teres minor muscles. The infraspinatus muscle arises from the infraspinous depression (fossa) of the shoulder blade bone and attaches to the middle portion of the greater tuberosity on the arm bone (humerus). It also arises from the capsule of the shoulder joint. It functions primarily to roll the arm outward as in turning the palm forward so that the thumb is away from the midline of the bo... 17. Neck pain|elbow pain|pronator teres
May 10, 2007
Neck pain related to C6, C7 nerve root irritation is common. The median nerve carries the C6 and C7 nerve root fibers to muscles in the front of the forearm including pronator teres. When there is pain and spasm in the muscles in the pronator teres, pain will be felt in the front of the elbow. By the time pain is felt in the front of the elbow, there has been long-standing weakness in the muscles at the back of the elbow and forearm. The muscles in this region are subjected to constant lengthening contractions that make them weak. This then allows for unopposed contraction of the muscles... (read more)
