Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 – July 4, 1826) [1] was the third President of the United States (1801–1809), the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776), and one of the most influential Founding Fathers for his promotion of the ideals of republicanism in the United States. Major events during his presidency include the Louisiana Purchase (1803) and the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804–1806). As a political philosopher, Jefferson was a man of the Enlightenment and knew many intellectual leaders in Britain and France. He idealized the independent yeoman farmer as exemplar of republican virtues, distrusted cities and financiers, and favored states' rights and a strictly limited federal government. Jefferson supported the separation of church and state[2] and was the author of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom (1779, 1786). He was the eponym of Jeffersonian democracy and the co-founder and leader of the Democratic-Republican Party, which dominated American politics for a quarter-century. Jefferson served as the wartime Governor of Virginia (1779–1781), first United States Secretary of State (1789–1793) and second Vice President (1797–1801). A polymath, Jefferson achieved distinction as, among other things, a horticulturist, statesman, architect, archaeologist, paleontologist, author, inventor, and founder of the University of Virginia. When President John F. Kennedy welcomed forty-nine Nobel Prize winners to the White House in 1962 he said, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent and of human knowledge that has ever been gathered together at the White House&_160;– with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."[3] Jefferson has been consistently ranked by scholars as one of the greatest U.S. Presidents. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743[1] into a family closely related to some of the most prominent individuals in Virginia, the third of eight children. His mother was Jane Randolph, daughter of Isham Randolph, a ship's captain and sometime planter, and first cousin to Peyton Randolph. Jefferson's father was Peter Jefferson, a planter and surveyor in Albemarle County (Shadwell, then Edge Hill, Virginia.) He was of Welsh descent. When Colonel William Randolph, an old friend of Peter Jefferson, died in 1745, Peter assumed executorship and personal charge of William Randolph's estate in Tuckahoe as well as his infant son, Thomas Mann Randolph. That same year the Jeffersons relocated to Tuckahoe where they would remain for the next seven years before returning to their home in Albemarle whereupon Peter Jefferson was appointed to the Colonelcy of the county, a very important position at the time.[4]

3. Behavioral Assessments and Pre-Hire Assessments For Effective Hiring
October 27, 2008
Behavioral assessments and pre-hire assessments are powerful hiring tools that are used to determine the aptitude of a candidate for a particular job. These tools can be diverse in nature as it differs from one company to another.
But the goal of behavioral assessments and pre-hire assessments is to put the hiring process of every organization on a sounder footing than ever before.
This brings to focus an interesting fact conveyed by Thomas Jefferson when he stated that it was not necessary to determine the fitness of a person for the position he held. However, this view ceases to h... (read more)

7. Military Intervention Has Advantages And Disadvantages
September 09, 2008
Military interventions around the world have been a source of public debate for over a century. Early statesmen, like George Washington, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe were all advocates of non intervention and sometimes even isolationist policies, favoring diplomacy first. On the other hand, Teddy Roosevelt was an early proponent of acquiring Cuba and Puerto Rico from Spain in the late 1890s and was further credited with inciting the Panamanian Revolt against Colombia so the US could secure construction rights for the Panama Canal in 1904.
Despite intermittent public ca... (read more)

9. Capture The True Leadership in Education
July 14, 2008
We can break education down into three types: The public school system, professional education, and leadership in education. Thomas Jefferson Education is another way to describe leadership in education.
For families who couldn't afford to give their children any other kind of education, public school was their option. The system was instituted to create students who could become part of the work force after receiving a diploma.
Now, the public school system is overwhelmingly the educational option of choice for almost all Americans. Educators who know Thomas Jefferson's style of edu... (read more)

There is nothing more pleasurable and luxurious for a book lover than a summer afternoon at the lake or a winter evening around the fire with a good book and a food and wine gift basket. An English food and wine gift basket is an excellent and eclectic choice for fans of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Charlotte Bronte and the like.

12. An American Holiday On The Fourth Of July
June 16, 2008
John Adams thought that America's birthday would be celebrated every year on the 2nd of July. Adams thought that the vote by the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776 to secede from British rule would become the date that Americans would honor throughout the ages. Ultimately, he would be proven wrong on his prediction of the day each year that America celebrates its independence.
In fact, Adams would be two days early in his forecast of America’s annual birthday. It was on the fourth of July 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was actually ratified. The Declaration of Independence w... (read more)

13. When It Comes to Dressing All Men Aren't Equal!
June 10, 2008
Even though Thomas Jefferson said ‘All Men Were Created Equal’, when it comes to clothing and body type, this bold statement is totally false! Even though men have fewer curves, men’s bodies vary a lot when compared to women’s, knowing how to dress up for your body type as well as the styles that has to be avoid is the answer to honing your personal style. One thing has to be kept in mind when you’re shopping for new clothes, the fit of the garment must be your ultimate aim. 14. Your Mental Attitude Dictates Your Number of Clients AND In-come
May 29, 2008
QUOTE: "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude." - Thomas Jefferson You may be working your tail off to market your business and yet you're still wondering why it hasn't "happened" yet. I've seen this happen thousands of times. An entrepreneur is seemingly working HARD to get clients, working like a dog to bring in some good in-come and yet, the results just aren't showing up. Thomas Jefferson is one of the most famous figures in American History. He is still remembered today in history classes for his role in establishing modern America, and is hailed as a national hero. 16. Hi Ho, Hi Ho
May 08, 2008
Do you think when they asked Thomas Jefferson for his ID, he just took out a nickel? - from Musings I can't, for the life of me, recall how I emerged from the haze of those days. But one (relatively) clear morning, I awoke to the aspiration of leaving substances behind, and a hankering to rejoin the establishment. In need of gainful employment, I applied for office work. As luck would have it, I submitted my dog-eared, coffee-stained resume to the winner of the annual Employer-from-Hell award. Born and raised in Skinflint, Michigan, when Cuthbert M. Philbot read that you... (read more)

17. What?! Luck Comes from Hard Work?
May 07, 2008
When I complained about my lack of luck to a friend of mine, she quoted Thomas Jefferson, 3rd president of the United States, who said, "I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it." It is easy to be scared of real work. Thomas Edison, American inventor said, "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." Do you believe success is a matter of luck? Does opportunity or luck elude you? Do you believe famous people are just "lucky" because opportunity has found them? What about comedian Tim Allen? 18. Mythology Alive and Well
April 22, 2008
We print pictures of George Washington on our money, we hang his picture in our state and federal buildings, and throughout our school systems we teach the history of George Washington. Yet, when the Continental Army under George Washington was deserting because they had little food, arms, and the situation looked as if it couldn't get much worse, it was not Washington, Adams, Franklin or Jefferson who provided the faith and money needed to carry on--it was Thomas Paine.
Why then is Mr. Paine not honored and loved by every American who ever lived? That's an easy question. He spoke out ag... (read more)

20. Presidents' Day: America's Top Presidents
February 10, 2008
Presidents' Day is a national holiday in America. It is a day of honor for all the men who have served in the office of President of the United States. As I researched how people rank the men that have held the highest office in this land, I was somewhat surprised to be challenged by the definition of the term "rank". Indeed, I saw lists of the "hottest" Presidents of all time. This beauty list usually includes Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Pierce, and Teddy Roosevelt. I saw lists of the best Democratic Presidents of all time. Of course, there were lists of the best ... (read more)

22. The Osteen Bible and other Apostasy Milestones
January 07, 2008
The word apostasy is derived from the Greek word apostasis which literally means “desertion.” In the last few years of time as we know it the Bible clearly promises there will be a falling away or apostasy in the church and in long held theological principles.
If you need to ask if an apostasy or a desertion is occurring today you probably don’t own a radio or a television set. Long held beliefs are being questioned, set aside and abandoned altogether with alarming frequency. Here are some prime examples.

24. Calculate Your Candidate Based on the Issues —
December 26, 2007
This is fun! Just score each issue, add up your score, and see who's your man . . . or woman! It is important, really important I feel, to not only do our civic duty and responsibly research who matches up to our particular preferences, but to make sure and vote. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."
