Unforgettable Whale Watching Experiences on Canadian Holidays

Travel & Tourism
If you’re a nature enthusiast, Canadian holidays will be right up your street. The country’s incredible natural beauty never fails to impress its visitors, and there’s all sorts to see when it comes to wildlife. Those looking for whale watching experiences will be particularly well catered for, as there are plenty of exciting excursions available whether you choose a fly-drive tour or a rail holiday.

There are a number of interesting animals you’ll be able to spot on your Canadian holidays, but the sea life in particular is hugely impressive. Read on to find out more about what you might be able to see on these unforgettable experiences around Canada.

Minke Whales

Unlike other species, minkes are widely distributed and can be found in various regions across the northern hemisphere. However, if you want to go whale watching in the summer, Canadian holidays are perfect – these whales prefer to feed in colder areas rather than the tropics.

When spotting these mammals, you’ll notice that they are relatively small when compared to other cetaceans. Females are a little longer than males, but generally the animals stretch to around 10 metres. Look out for their pointed heads and dark grey or black dorsal fins when they appear out of the water. Minkes are also recognised by their slender bodies.

Whether you’re on a guided tour or escorted rail journey, your guides will be sure to point out any mammals you’re lucky enough to come across on the excursion, so you needn’t worry about missing out. Just don’t forget your camera!

Humpback Whales

You’re unlikely to have trouble when trying to catch a glimpse of these beasts – humpback whales can grow to over 60 feet in length (around the same size as a bus!) so you’ll be able to identify them no problem.

You may even be able to hear these animals before you see them. Humpbacks are known for their cries and songs, which scientists presume are used largely to attract mates and engage in general communication. These cries can carry on for several hours, but if you don’t hear the animals you can look out for their dark backs and small humps at the front of their dorsal fins – hence the name ‘humpback’.

Being able to witness these magnificent creatures living in the wild is what draws so many nature enthusiasts to Canadian holidays. Whether you choose a rail journey, an escorted fly-drive tour or a wildlife excursion, you’ll no doubt have the opportunity to see a great deal of the country’s fantastic wildlife.

To make the most of your experience in Canada, arrange your getaway with a specialist tour operator. This way you’re guaranteed to see the real highlights, wherever you happen to be exploring.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your camera, book a ticket and head to the Great White North for the whale watching adventure of a lifetime.
