Parjanya (Parjánya), a Vedic deity of rain, is often associated with Indra - the "thundergod" who punishes sinners. There are two hymns dedicated to him in the Rigveda (5.63 and 7.101). For example: "When thou, with thunder and with roar, Parjanya, smitest sinners down, This universe exults thereat, yea, all that is upon the earth."
