A wage is a compensation, usually financial, received by workers in exchange for their labor. Compensation in terms of wages is given to workers and compensation in terms of salary is given to employees. Compensation is a monetary benefit given to employees in return for the services provided by them. Depending on the structure and traditions of different economies around the world, wage rates are either the product of market forces (Supply and Demand), as is common in the United States, or wage rates may be influenced by other factors such as tradition, social structure and seniority, as in Japan.[citation needed] Several countries have enacted a statutory minimum wage rate that sets a price floor for certain kinds of labor.

9. Employee Retention and Turnover: Don't Pay Minimum Wage
November 18, 2009
Frankly, I don't believe in paying minimum wage.
This doesn't mean I don't believe in a minimum wage which must be paid.
It means I don't believe in paying only minimum wage.
Why? For two reasons:
One, because in return for paying only minimum wage, you usually get minimum employees who are motivated to deliver minimum effort, which isn’t good for either one of you.
I suggest that paying minimum wage typically sends employees this message on one level or another:
"You and the work you do for us have so little value that we're going to pay yo... (read more)

The U.S. Department of Labor is targeting employers who violate wage and hour laws in spite of a recent ruling in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

12. Outsourcing in the Philippines Growth Amid the Recession
November 12, 2009
During the peak of the economic crisis, outsourcing industry leaders, analysts, and service providers projected a lift in outsourcing and offshoring activity ; and with good reason. An offshore employee can be employed 24/7 for the equivalent of hardly a living wage in Western countries. The difference was simply too great to disregard and the worldwide outsourcing market became covered with large BPO buyers that were willing to sacrifice a little bit of quality ( arguably ) for the cheap offers that so many service providers flaunted. October 28, 2009
Homeowners are often worried about further collection attempts after a foreclosure has been completed. But in most cases, there is little chance of a deficiency judgment or future collection attempts due to the numerous obstacles in the path of the bank.

25. Accepting Evaluations from Friends & Relatives
October 22, 2009
Checking our progress against our goals is a pretty standard process in the employment world. Hired to do specific tasks for a defined wage or salary, our supervisors want a documented understanding of how the mutual arrangement is working out for both parties. What can be an honorable, affirming opportunity to communicate our achievements and potential growth frequently seems to be reduced to measuring statistics of right and wrong, resulting in anticipatory misery, and limiting the zeal for the aforementioned potential growth. Any wonder our major concern at annual review time is whether we ... (read more)
