Wetting is the contact between a liquid and a solid surface, resulting from intermolecular interactions when the two are brought together. The amount of wetting depends on the energies (or surface tensions) of the interfaces involved such that the total energy is minimized. The degree of wetting is described by the contact angle, the angle at which the liquid-vapor interface meets the solid-liquid interface. If the wetting is very favorable, the contact angle will be low, and the fluid will spread to cover a larger area of the surface. If the wetting is unfavorable, the fluid will form a compact droplet on the surface. Regardless of the amount of wetting, the shape of a drop wetted to a rigid surface is roughly a truncated sphere. Various degrees of wetting are depicted in Figure 1. A contact angle of 90° or greater generally characterizes a surface as not-wettable, and one less than 90° as wettable. In the context of water, a wettable surface may also be termed hydrophilic and a non-wettable surface hydrophobic. Superhydrophobic surfaces have contact angles greater than 150°, showing almost no contact between the liquid drop and the surface. This is sometimes referred to as the "Lotus effect". Wetting is also important in the bonding or adherence of two materials. Wetting and the surface forces that control wetting are also responsible for other related effects, including so-called capillary effects. Consider the line of contact where three phases meet, as shown in Figure 2. In equilibrium, the net force per unit length acting along the boundary line between the three phases must be zero. The components of net force in the direction along each of the interfaces are given by where a, ß, and ? are the angles shown and ?ij is the surface energy between the two indicated phases. These relations can also be expressed by an analog to a triangle known as Neumann’s triangle, shown in Figure 3. Neumann’s triangle is consistent with the geometrical restriction that a + ß + ? = 2p, and applying the law of sines and law of cosines to it produce relations that describe how the interfacial angles depend on the ratios of surface energies.[1]

1. Night Time Toilet Training - Tips to Stop Night Time Bed Wetting
September 17, 2008
Some children stay dry at night easily; other take a while to master the habit. If your child still wets the bed, make sure they wear nighttime nappies. Praise is good for dry nights, but never scold your child for a wet bed or talk about his bed-wetting in front of others. Shame and embarrassment should not be a part of your child's bed-wetting experience. It will only cause anxiety and that will exacerbate the problem.
To help your child stay dry at night, talk to him often about the night routine of toilet training. Let him know it is okay to come and waken you for help if he cannot go... (read more)

May 01, 2008
Bed wetting can be a terrible problem for a growing boy (or girl, of course, though the disorder is comparatively uncommon among them). As he grows up, there are more and more opportunities and requirements for him to spend nights away from home, and the child with this problem has to find excuses all the time. Even within the home, the teasing and humiliation can be merciless.
Children who have an increase in accidental wettings after treatment are considered to have relapsed. A relapse is defined as more than 2 wet nights in 2 weeks. The most likely time for a child to relapse is with... (read more)

8. Gravity Casting and Information on What Gravity Casting Is
April 30, 2008
Research and development in gravity casting has taken an important step in making metal products a part of our day to day lives. The products used in homes, aircrafts, artifacts, automobiles have become more durable and less expensive. Cast alloy parts are formed by melting the alloy and then pouring it in a mold under heavy pressure or vacuum. Gravity casting is also known as vacuum casting. It is a technique in which large diameter filaments are used with adequate separation. This ensures that no clusters are formed and also good metal wetting of the fiber is guaranteed. This technique was f... (read more)

16. Bedwetting Causes Symptoms Information with Treatment
September 28, 2007
Bedwetting often runs in families Most kids who wet the bed have a relative that did it, too. If both parents wet the bed when they were young, it's very likely that their child will as well. Generally, bed-wetting before age 6 or 7 isn't cause for concern. At this age, nighttime bladder control simply may not be established. It's more common among boys than girls. Secondary enuresis occurs when a child goes through an extended period of dryness and begins to experience night-time wetting again. Secondary enuresis is often (though by no means always) caused by emotional stress. If bed-wetting ... (read more)

24. Bedwetting Tips: Buying a Bed Wetting Alarm

My friend’s six-year-old son still can’t seem to get through the week without at least 2 bed wetting incidents. She’s got rubber sheets on the bed, and he wears pull-ups, but these do nothing to actually stop the problem. She figures part of it is her fault. She intends to rouse him every night to use the toilet, but it’s such a struggle to wake him up! They say that being a sound sleeper is a major factor in bed wetting at this age, and I believe it. There aren’t very many kids who go off to college needing diapers – it does happen, but it’s really pretty rare. So what’s up with bedwetting? What’s the cause? In other words, why you? Why your child? First of all, there are two types of bedwetting. The first is Primary Nocturnal Enures... (read more)
