851. Iran Nuclear Talks Delayed

The Vienna talks on Iran's nuclear program were delayed Tuesday after an Iranian official said France was not needed at the talks.The International Atomic Energy Agency did not give a reason for the delay in starting the second day of discussions among Iran, Russia, France, the United States and the IAEA.  But the Associated Press quotes diplomats as saying the break was due to an impasse over France's participation.The negotiators have been discussing a proposal to have Iran ship uranium to Russia and France for conversion to reactor fuel. Map of australiaAustralia's worst oil slick since the mid-1980s is now tainting Indonesian waters. Fishermen in West Timor say contaminated fish are making villagers ill. In what is being heralded in Turkey as a major breakthrough in the 26-year conflict between the Turkish state and Kurdish rebel group the PKK, 34 militants have crossed over from bases in Iraq and turned themselves in to Turkish authorities. The symbolic move comes in response to a government initiative to end a long running conflict that has claimed 40,000 lives.
