One reason many people fail to generate substantial income writing articles is that they fail to properly target their article. Each article you write should be targeted to several critical areas. First and foremost, it is essential that your article have a large potential audience. An article entitled How to Survive the Antarctic Winter may be a work of art, but no one will see it because very few people are searching for that information. You can check on the number of searches for a particular subject by doing a keyword search on the words in your title. You can accomplish this by doing a search on Wordtracker (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/). Wordtracker shows that there were no searches for this term. That means that that there is no one interested in your article and you would be wise to consider writing an article with a larger potential audience. Write articles with relatively large Wordtracker numbers. Another reason your articles fail to generate substantial income is that they are too general. I like to laser target my articles to the item that I am promoting. Before sitting down to write that million dollar article, thoroughly research the item you are promoting and write down at least ten features for that product. A feature is a description of the product or details of what the product can do. For example, a feature of a toaster is that it will toast bread in one minute. Following each feature, write down how that feature will benefit the buyer. Using the toaster example again, a benefit of that feature is that it will allow you to make your toast and be out the door on your way to work in three minutes. Another feature is, it is shiny. The benefit to this is that it will look great on your counter top. Choose two or three of the most important features and benefits and build your article round them. A third reason your articles fail to maximize income is you don’t offer the reader easy to follow links. Some submission sites will allow links in the body of your article if they are helpful to the audience and not a blatant advertising pitch. It would not be acceptable to write an article stating that your brother-in-law has opened up a birdhouse business and he needs the money to move out of your house. However, it would be acceptable if you wrote an interesting article about how different birds are attracted to different birdhouses and recommend the reader go to XYZ site to see a good selection of birdhouses. If the site will not allow tasteful links in the body of the article, you should fashion a good resource box with several good links. I design a slightly different resource box for each article I write. One link points to my website and another links with the product I’m promoting.
