While the earliest Old English texts represent this phoneme with the digraph <uu>, scribes soon borrowed the rune wynn (?) for this purpose. It remained a standard letter throughout the Anglo-Saxon era, eventually falling out of use (perhaps under the influence of French orthography) during the Middle English period, circa 1300 (Freeborn 199225). It was replaced with <uu> once again, from which the modern <w> developed. The denotation of the rune is "joy, bliss" known from the Anglo-Saxon rune poem It is not continued in the Younger Futhark, but in the Gothic alphabet, the letter ?? w is called winja, allowing a Proto-Germanic reconstruction of the rune's name as *wunjô "joy".

January 23, 2008
It is only in recent decades that realtors have started to routinely represent buyers as well as sellers. Consequently, it is only in recent decades that realtors have had significant financial incentive to encourage their clients to buy homes and to buy homes at a premium price. Due to the current state of the real estate market, with home prices falling after reaching all-time highs, some realtors are finding themselves in the unenviable position of being blamed by former clients for encouraging the purchase of properties that in retrospect, seem overpriced. Some realtors face clients’ scorn... (read more)

10. Different Tactics for a Real Estate to Educate Themselves
October 30, 2007
A real estate agent I know recently posed the question, "how important is it for a real estate broker to be involved in his community?" That is, does a real estate agent provide better service if he does things such as serve on local boards, belong to local committees, and contribute to local charities? One view is that an agent who is involved in these types of activities is invested in his community, and thus, will be more informed and educated about local issues, including the current real estate market. On the other hand, it can be argued that as long as an agent does, indeed, know the mar... (read more)
