Afghan and international forces say they have killed 20 suspected militants during operations in southern Afghanistan.  Other suspected militants have been detained.NATO says one suspect was detained Monday in a compound in Kandahar province that was used by the Taliban to supply explosives, weapons and ammunition to other militants in the area. Authorities in southern Afghanistan said local and foreign troops have killed as many as 60 Taliban militants in the past week, as part of a stepped up anti-insurgency operation. The U.S. military in Afghanistan says coalition and Afghan forces killed 15 militants during an operation in the southern province of Zabul.A military statement Friday said troops were on their way to a local village in the Arghandab district to talk to elders about security issues when they were attacked by armed militants. A spokesman for the governor of Paktika province said Friday the strike occurred on Thursday in Paktika, which borders Pakistan. Suspected Taleban militants have killed 13 people in attacks in southern Afghanistan. A private security company escorting NATO supply trucks said 10 security guards were killed Thursday in a Taleban ambush. Afghan police say a suicide bomber has blown himself up near a police vehicle in southern Afghanistan, killing at least four people.
