Zeus ( IPA /zjuːs/; in Greek nominative Ζεύς Zeús /zdeús/, genitive Διός Diós; Modern Greek /'zefs/) in Greek mythology is the king of the gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus and the god of the sky and thunder. His symbols are the thunderbolt, eagle, bull, and oak. In addition to his Indo-European inheritance, the classical "cloud-gatherer" also derives certain iconographic traits from the cultures of the ancient Near East, such as the scepter. Zeus is frequently depicted by Greek artists in one of two poses standing, striding forward, with a thunderbolt leveled in his raised right hand, or seated in majesty. Zeus was the child of Cronus and Rhea, and the youngest of his siblings. In most traditions he was married to Hera, although, at the oracle of Dodona, his consort was Dione according to the Iliad, he is the father of Aphrodite by Dione. He is known for his erotic escapades. These resulted in many godly and heroic offspring, including Athena, Apollo and Artemis, Hermes, Persephone (by Demeter), Dionysus, Perseus, Heracles, Helen, Minos, and the Muses (by Mnemosyne); by Hera, he is usually said to have fathered Ares, Hebe and Hephaestus. His Roman counterpart was Jupiter and his Etruscan counterpart Tinia. In Hindu mythology his counterpart was Indra with ever common weapon as thunderbolt. The major center where all Greeks converged to pay honor to their chief god was Olympia. Their quadrennial festival featured the famous Games. There was also an altar to Zeus made not of stone, but of ash, from the accumulated remains of many centuries' worth of animals sacrificed there.

November 21, 2008
As paintball has progressed into a serious sport there have came along new gun designs. The whole idea in paintball is to be able to shoot accurately and fast. Anything that weighs a player down is not good. A gun that is hard to aim or hinders movement is also not a good thing. That is why the paintball pistol was designed. The small and easy to carry design of a paintball pistol makes it ideal for a player looking to improve their mobility on the playing field. A paintball pistol is smaller and more compact than a paintball rifle. A paintball pistol or paintball hand gun offers a ... (read more)

3. Review on Pandora's Box
October 24, 2008
Do you know of Pandora's Box? I personally think that this myth was one of the most interesting myths for two reasons. This particular myth, got me into Greek mythology, and how clever Zeus's plan was to punish the human kind. Whoever thought of this myth must be an amazing, imaginative, and creative writer. Here's a quick review of Pandora's Box. Prometheus, a benefactor to the ancient Greeks, was believed to have stolen fire from a wrathful god, Zeus. Therefore, Zeus was so full of wrath that he chained Prometheus up to a rock and let eagles come devour his liver. Pretty harsh, huh? Unfort... (read more)

September 29, 2008
The government has taken over mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to help lower mortgage rates and allow more Americans to get affordable loans.
The federal rescue, announced by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on Sunday, September 7, gave homeowners a glimmer of hope amid the long-running housing market crisis. Both Freddie and Fannie have taken a beating over the past months due to a drop in home prices, rise in foreclosures, and increase in delinquent mortgages. Government intervention to save the housing market seemed necessary.

10. Mortgage Fraud Climbs Despite Tighter Lending Procedures
September 04, 2008
According to the Mortgage Asset Research Institute, mortgage fraud has increased significantly during the past year by 42 percent. Mortgage fraud happens when brokers and loan officers participate in illegal activities to gain profit. Mortgage brokers and loan officers earn commissions each time they get a loan application approved. However, tighter lending practices make it hard for borrowers to get a loan, which means less commission for brokers. This pushes them to engage in fraudulent activities. To qualify for a loan, they put fake job descriptions, income, and financial assets of borr... (read more)

It’s horrible to think about people losing their homes again, after they’ve been in the same situation three years ago.
Hurricane Gustav caused worries for the authorities and residents of New Orleans, which called for massive evacuation. With images of Hurricane Katrina still in their minds, residents are now more prepared to leave their homes and take refuge in shelters.

It does pay to go online and read the daily paper. While some people regard chatting as a total waste of time, a few find solutions to their problems by going online. 14. People with AIDS on the Brink of Foreclosure Will Receive Federal Housing Grant
August 22, 2008
One can’t help but feel for people who lost their homes to foreclosure. The past months have left many without houses, and it’s still taking away other people’s homes.
It’s even worse to see sick people who, despite their condition, are forced out of their residences. Losing their homes would make it more difficult for these people to take care of their health, like those who are inflicted with HIV/AIDS. For them, losing their health to the HIV virus is as hard as losing their dwellings to foreclosure.
It’s fortunate that there is money allotted for building houses specifically for p... (read more)

15. Get a Better Chance of Landing a Great Mortgage Deal by Choosing the Right Lender
August 22, 2008
People should learn from the experiences of others who lost, or even came close to losing, their homes to foreclosure because they can save you from losing your own. And if you ask them what caused their demise, they’ll tell you that it’s due to delinquent mortgages.
Homeowners fail to keep up with their mortgages because of financial difficulties. Though it can be blamed mostly on the homeowners themselves, it would’ve helped if they had the best mortgage rates in the first place. The question is, however: where to get the best rates?
There are different types of mortgage lenders wh... (read more)

If you are worried about losing your homes to foreclosure, then there is something you should be wary about – scammers.
Scammers have taken their modus operandi to another level. This time, they are targeting distressed homeowners who are facing possible foreclosure. Fraudulent companies go through foreclosure listings to look for possible victims. They operate by mailing letters offering homeowners an opportunity to get out of the foreclosure problem. Once in contact with homeowners, they will present documents that homeowners need to sign. They then promise to work out a deal with their... (read more)

August 12, 2008
Just like a seasoned firefighter who is carefully positioned below a burning building to catch victims, the government’s housing arm, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is ready to provide a safety net for those who are on a downward spiral because of their mortgage situation.
Since the start of 2007, we have seen how foreclosures rose and home prices dropped, causing many people to lose their hard-earned homes. Over the past months, the government exerted a lot of effort to make sure that the crisis is managed properly.

18. Communities Severely Damaged by Storms Will Get CDBG Assistance from HUD
August 12, 2008
Weeks ago, President Bush almost didn’t sign the housing bill that would provide a remedy for the housing slump, because of a particular provision in the draft where about $4 billion in funds are slated to shoulder the costs for redeveloping and rehabilitating foreclosed properties in communities hit hard by the foreclosure wave. Fortunately, succeeding events led to the eventual signing of the housing bill in the latter part of July.
Because of this, communities will now be able to help themselves purchase and redevelop foreclosed properties. But even before the bill was signed into law,... (read more)

19. The Olympics
August 10, 2008
The aura that surrounds the single greatest physical competition the world knows is one that has it's origins springing from Greek mythology. There are numerous legends that attribute the original games to different larger than life characters but the most popular one has Heracles (or Hercules) as the son of Zeus creating the Olympics as a tribute to his father. There is some dispute as to the date of the very first games but the most commonly accepted date is 776 BCE when the games were held in Olympia. In line with the idea that they were a tribute to the god Zeus the games originally we... (read more)

August 04, 2008
If you are one of those health buffs who routinely take a walk or jog in the park during mornings, one common sight is the presence of people sleeping in benches, or simply roaming around the premises, people who at first glance can be identified as homeless people. For some reason, it is easy to identify a homeless person in a park from those who are not. Though there are others, who roam around, or sit, even lie in benches, they won’t be mistaken as homeless. Their clothes probably have something to do with it. Most homeless people are given away by their clothes. Once you pass... (read more)

I always find it fascinating that in one aspect, all adults act like obstinate children without being aware of it. We judge each other.
The only sermon I remember from my church-going days was about the Ten Commandments. The preacher had a revolutionary approach to them, in that he said that you do not HAVE to obey them. He said the real meaning was that you could ignore them, but then you would have to take full responsibility for your actions. That made sense to me.
I realized in later years that the first commandment in the Bible is actually “Th... (read more)
