You are responsible for your own happiness! I work at a major retailer that employ’s a large number of college students… I’m amazed at the amount of drama that is involved in their lives… I often ask if they understand that they are responsible for their own happiness… 99 % don’t get it! When I was growing up you learned at an early age how to entertain yourself and how to avoid certain personality types… there were no electronic devices given to you to divert your attention from the responsibility of entertaining yourself… instead Mom simple gave you a empty box or a discarded broom, the rest was up to your imagination… The box became a hideout and the broom a horse that you chased the bad guys on, yippee ki yea…Today when the young are left to their own resources they start whining for someone to entertain them… It doesn’t stop here this problem continues into adulthood, they are unable to have relationships that last because they depend on the other person in the relationship to make them happy… I hear it all the time…. I ask a young person about their relationships, a typical conversation goes like this: So, how is it going with your new room mate…? Well, if they would keep their shoes out of the middle of the floor and their tooth brush on their side of the sink… they will ramble on and on… I will interrupt! You know you are responsible for your own happiness… They never hear the statement and continue on their rant…. Again, I will ask the question… You know that you are responsible for your own happiness…. Finally I will try to explain that they are overlooking the obvious…. They have to take control of their own lives by removing things that make them unhappy… this is true for all relationships, it’s about finding things to do that make yourself happy… it could be a simple as planning a trip or building a bench in the garage… Being “the boss of you” and being “responsible for your own happiness” begins with you, depending on others for your happiness will lead to many disappointments. You can do some work up front when beginning a new relationship by looking for “tells”. Here are some easy tips to remember! Personality traits to avoid: The controller (this is an easy one to spot), Bad temper (this may be a little harder to spot, but will rear its ugly head in time), Jealousy (doesn’t want you to hang with your friends is an early warning sign), Me,Me,Me (Always talks about themselves, what a bad day they had, etc.) This is just a starter kit, develop your own criteria! Get started with your own life, happiness is contagious and you are responsible for yours. Surround yourself with others that believe as you do, spread it around…. You should remember that bad habits are the hardest to break, for example; It's easier eat foods that taste good rather than foods that are good for you! It's easier to stay in a bad relationship than leave that relationship! It's easier to keep smoking than quitting, you get the idea, now it's up to you! Yippee ki yea…. That Dog Hunts
