I've always liked dogs. Unlike people they're eternally loyal, love to see you no matter what your lot in life. You could be the President or driving a trash truck, it doesn't matter to them, they'll love you nonetheless. Dogs are always ready for a good time. A walk around the block is like being a kid going to an amusement park, and they never tire of it. I was thinking right now, if I were a dog, what breed would I be? Well, it's pretty easy to rule out the type I wouldn't be. Poodles, Afghans... too prissy. Beagles, Hounds, nah, I'm not into hunting. Great Danes, Irish Wolfhound, Mastiffs, too big, sort of remind me of the big hapless kid that was as strong as an ox, and almost as smart. Chihuahua, Terrier, too mouthy. Pit Bull, Rottweiler, too tough. No, I think my personality traits would make me a Sporting Dog, probably a Retriever. There are all kinds of Retrievers, the Labs, Golden, Curly-Coated, Flat-Coated, and I wouldn't mind being any of them, but if I was to pick one I would say the Chesapeake Bay Retriever would suit me fine. This breed originated in Maryland back in the early 1800's and the story goes that an English brig ran aground on the Maryland shore and on board were two Newfoundland puppies, and from these two the breed was born. After many generations and breeding between them and Setters, Hounds, Water Spaniels and other dogs what evolved was the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Some of things that I like about the Chessie are they seem to have an easy going way about them and are always up for getting out and having a good run. These dogs are intensely loyal, and can also be happy just hanging out at the house, and watching a good movie. Like myself, they're not much for being kept on a leash, and probably get 'cabin fever' if they don't get out from time to time. Even though these dogs are hard workers they definitely know how to take time to play as well. Of course they love the water, and they don't have to bother with sunscreen, which is another plus. Yea, this breed seems to fit me rather well, they are active, intellegent, well, one out of two ain't bad.
