Do you love coffee? What about gourmet coffee? If so, you might have tried some premium brands of coffee like Green Mountain, Starbucks Rwanda Blue Bourbon etc. These brands are little bit different from “Kopi Luwak”. This coffee doesn’t come from Mexico or from Tanzania. This coffee doesn’t even come from Colombia like the other premium coffees and gourmet coffees. This very unusual gourmet coffee, kopi luwak, originates in Indonesia. So, what is Kopi Luwak? Kopi Luwak is made of red coffee beans that are collected from the Luwak droppings. The coffee beans are defecated and it is collected and washed thoroughly. Then it is roasted lightly in order to retain it's complex flavors. Since the bitterness of the coffee has been removed after going through Luwak's digestive track, light roasting is particularly good enough. What does kopi luwak taste like? If you ask some one who has tasted it, he will say that it tastes like heaven. There are several different species of beans that are eaten and harvested from palm civets, including Arabica, Liberica, and Robusto, so each one has a different taste. However, kopi luwak has an amazingly smooth taste, with no trace of bitterness. Actually the Luwak picks the best and sweetest coffee cherries using their special senses. Once, the coffee cherries goes through Luwak digestive track, a special enzyme will start breaking down the protein that gives the coffee it's bitter taste. Still, the coffee is very rich and full bodied. Some coffee drinkers describe kopi luwak as having chocolate, orange, floral, and/or butter undertones. Is Kopi Luwak safe to drink? Yes, it is safe to drink. Kopi Luwak is thoroughly washed to remove the civets poop. And if there is any bacteria left light roasting of the coffee beans will cover up for it. It may have a lower bacteria level, but it is effectively sterilized, cleaned and completely safe than normal coffee. Well, as per the present market evaluation, kopi luwak is the most expensive coffee in the entire world. It can cost maximum $600 for a pound. The specialty Vietnamese weasel coffee, which is made by collecting coffee beans eaten by wild civets, is sold at $6600 per kilogram ($3000 per pound). It is cheaper in the Philippines, Indonesia. In spite of its high cost those who really adore good taste, smoothness of coffee, are buying this brand. If you want to taste the richness and share your experience, just go and grab it. If it is a question of real taste and refreshment, kopi luwak has no match for it. From the deep forests of Indonesia, kopi luwak is now at the top position for it’s quality and richness.
