A platform bed is simply a bed that only supports a mattress with no box spring. Platform beds tend to sit lower to the floor than a traditional bed. These beds are great not only for those who enjoy contemporary or modern designs but also for those who like to be ahead of the times in terms of their styles. Some of these beds are even available with round platforms and may not even stand on legs. However, most of the upholstered designs do not accommodate the extra storage space found with wooden frames. Other Platform Bed Options No matter what frame one chooses, there are also many other accessories one should consider when choosing a platform bed. Some designs come with their own accompanying armoires, chests, dressers, nightstands or other pieces made especially to match the bed. One can also choose other pieces to create his or her own design. Of course, these bed are available in to accommodate mattresses from twin, full, queen and king to California king and extra long, but one should check to find out if the desired bed has the size he or she needs. One may find a discount platform bed in either a wood, metal or upholstered frame if one knows where to look. Platform beds that have been marked down for clearance or discount have the same features as those priced regularly, but may not be as popular as other designs. However, if one is not too choosy about the style, he or she can get a bed for a fraction of regular cost.
