While often co-opted by the grandiose storytelling of Hollywood, the Knights Templar story retains some truth about it. Allegedly begun as a group of nine highly principled Knights, the Templars were a group who gathered in Jerusalem around 1118 AD with the premise of protecting Pilgrims to the holy city and to ensure that it stayed within the grasp of the Holy Roman Empire. Initially they made the Knightly request of King Baldwin of Jerusalem who refuses to allow them entrance. Then after dying under mysterious circumstances, the next king, Baldwin the II, immediately grants the request after his coronation. Their first task, aside from escorting pilgrims though the Holy Land, was to begin excavations under the Temple of Solomon to look for the Holy Grail. According to legend they and the Templar Grand Mater return to Europe with secrets in hand. Shortly thereafter the Pope grants them permission to begin charging interest, formerly illegal under usury laws and immediately their influence and wealth began to increase. Immediately after this new permission, the Cathedral building period in Europe begins, ostensibly with the wealth of the Knights. It is rumored that it was knowledge from the secrets they uncovered that allowed them to build such amazing freestanding buildings of stone. It was rumored that due to the speedy method with which they accumulated their wealth, they became one of the most powerful societies in Europe and they remained well placed to take advantage of any new or secret discoveries made in their name. It is stories like these that drive the history hounds all over Europe to uncover the legend and all of its attendant secrets. But this simply cannot be accomplished in the short term. A weekend trip though London won’t yield any new knowledge; an extended stay is necessary. That is why for those who can secure short term rentals London is the place to be when it comes to researching the Templar mysteries. And there are Templar connected sites all over the UK. From a holiday apartment London begins to reveal the hidden secrets and mysteries of these ancient secret organizations, and whether for fun or a hobby, the mystery remains the strongest attraction.
