You can try to beat it down, suppress it, or talk yourself out of pursuing what is truly in your heart, but the truth of the matter is this–that “thing” called passion will never die. Whether it’s golfing, singing, managing a business, dancing, painting, or learning how to play piano, until you cultivate that “thing,” the desire to actualize it might take a back seat to other priorities and sub-interests, but it will continue to raise its head and hound you until you give it what it requires—pursuit. Use these 7 simple steps to jumpstart your journey to pursuing your passion. 1.Plan to consistently accommodate the desired pursuit in your daily routine—A plan is nothing more than a vision. You should write the vision, which is to say, write a description of what you see mentally and in your heart. The written plan becomes the first-level of manifestation of the pursuit; it takes the desire from an unseen state of being to one that others and you can see with your natural eyes. 2.Identify the education, experience, and other essentials needed to get to the place called “there.” This might require you to consult with others who have been where you are trying to go. Or, you may want to consult with someone who is inspired about life and has a track record of setting and meeting goals. 3.Set aside at least 30-60 minutes per day taking the steps required to fulfill your passion. To alter a behavior whether you are trying to eliminate one or assume another, you must be consistent. Research shows that it takes 21-30 days of consistent repetition to make this happen. 4.Assign concrete dates and times to each step. If you get off schedule for reasons beyond your control, adjust your dates. This will remind your inner drive that this journey is important to you. 5.Set up task reminders in areas that you frequent. Post a reminder in your car, on and in your brief case, on mirrors in your home, on the refrigerator, next to your toothbrush, on your pillow, or in your wallet/purse, etc. The goal is to form a habit of investing time to foster something that is in you that must to be born. Setting these visual reminders can help to form this habit. 6.Do not allow meaningless activities to usurp the time that was committed to the pursuit. According to wiki.com/answers, the average child watches 6 hours of television a day; the average person watches 3-5 hours per day. From this one can conclude that finding and making time for what really matters is doable. 7.Review your plan and progress daily. Don’t let the sun go down without reviewing what you have accomplished. This should make for a good night’s rest as you lay with thoughts of making things happen that truly matter to you.
