Improving Your Health One Tiny Step At A Time

Perhaps the biggest reason why New Year's resolutions don't cross the finish line at the end of the predetermined time line is because it is going to take some sobering lifestyle changes that will generally take longer than the month of January. While the goals are always very ambitious, the results are much less than desired and usually inspires giving up rather than pressing through to get the results you envision. Revamping a new you will require more than 30 days. New Year's resolutions are good examples of goals that are usually never achieved because of the gun ho attitude that soon looses steam and the time line that is attached to them. However it is very possible to achieve any goals set, by using a common sense healthy perspective approach.

The first step in a new more healthier direction should never be taken lightly. It should never become extreme either. Changing lifestyle choices can often be difficult in the beginning and the most successful changes come about because of a slow often boring pace but will make the efforts very rewarding for the rest of your life. A slower pace is great for fighting off the onslaught of being overwhelmed and helps keep you focused.

For instance if you want to begin eating healthier then start by doing something small to change your eating habits like drinking more water, eliminating soda from your diet, switching to whole grain bread, or even just adding one or two servings of fruits or veggies per day. You will find the taking one little step in the right direction and keeping with it until it becomes a healthy habit is by far the best way to keep moving in the right direction and making the changes that you want to not only for the short term but for the long haul.

Many people try to focus more on exercise as a way to stay healthy and this is a very important part of changes that need to take place. The fact is that if you take on these changes too quickly and over do it, you will loose your motivational steam and soon throw in the towel of defeat and settle back into the destructive habits you are trying to change. Lasting lifestyle changes need to be done in a realistic way that will make meeting your set goals very reachable and will be a stepping stone to the next phase of your life style changes and can be motivation enough to make giving up an unacceptable option. Start slowly and increase your activity level every day or week allowing your body to get used to the changes and begin to crave more of the changes. Going from the couch to 10 miles just isn't going to happen for most people that are human.

Healthier life styles have a vast assortment of changes that can be implemented and if implemented the correct way will be changes that will stick. Any resolutions that we make known should be able to last past the two month period that is the death line of many boldly proclaimed intentions and resolutions. By allowing yourself a less intimidating time line to achieve better health you will set in motion health habits that will serve your health well for years to come and make your resolutions and the results the talk of your town while you get to enjoy the benefits.
