EXERCISE WITH YOUR WALKER OR ROLLATOR

Getting old or rehabilitating from an injury is a drag only if you let it be. Having the ability to be mobile and remain mobile is freedom that is often taken for granted until it is taken from you. This article will explain the healthful benefits of exercising the benefit of walking with your walker or rollator. Regardless if you have become debilitated by age related infirmities or injuries, getting back on your feet and moving once again will provide tremendous benefits. For some the walker or rollator will be temporary tools during rehabilitation; for others it may be a constant companion on the road of life. In either situation using the walker or rollator to get you moving once again is one of the keys to living a better quality of life. Healthful benefits of walker/rollator walking Becoming mobile with the assistance of your walker or rollator will provide some of the following benefits: 1. Weight loss 2. Bones strengthening, help prevent osteoporosis 3. Help maintain and regulate diabetes 4. Lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol 5. Lower risk of heart disease or stroke 6. Helps lower stress, enhances better sleep and lessen irritability

Getting started

Walking will make and keep you stronger. It is recommended that you first consult with your doctor or physician to ensure that this type of exercise regiment is right for you. Once you have consulted with your medical advisors the next step is to develop a routine. It starts with your first steps. Regardless of how many steps you take at first, the important factor in developing a sound cardio session is consistency. You may wish to plan you walker/rollators walks on a particular day at a specific time. It is recommended that you plan your walks for a minimum of at least three days a week. It is also recommended that you not set too lofty of goals to start. Just take is easy in the beginning. The key here is not to over extend you, but rather to modestly pace yourself.

Life is a journey – let’s start walking

It is a well known fact that walking has many benefits. The fact that you must use a walker or rollator should not slow you down. Let it become a useful tool for your recovery or life’s journey. Aside from the cardiovascular benefits, walking will help keep your weight under control, build or maintain bone mass, help prevent osteoporosis, help maintain and regulate diabetes and lower your risk of illnesses. But perhaps the greatest benefit of walking is the improvement of one’s overall emotional well-being. You can do it!
