Yet again, governmental officials are trying to undermine individual freedom. It's troubling enough that legislators have abused their authority and legislated smoking bans in public areas throughout the nation. Now, officials in Tacoma, Washington are going after the e cigarette, too. The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has suggested brand new regulations which would regulate e cigs just like conventional cigarettes. This could mean no more vaping an e cig in night clubs, eating places, offices or any room where the population might possibly want to be. For folks who do not know, an electronic cigarette is a battery powered device that simulates smoking by permitting people of them to inhale and exhale a vapor mist that often includes a minor amount of nicotine inside it. Substances in the fluid the gadgets utilize include water, vegetable glycerin (VG) or propylene glycol (PG), nicotine in an amount approximately corresponding to 1/10 of a tobacco cigarette or less and a flavoring agent. Vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol have both been permitted by the EPA and FDA for human intake, water is surely not dangerous to people nor is artificial flavoring thought of an ever-present health worry. Although it is true that nicotine is very addictive, it has never been directly linked to cancer nor has it been labeled as an element to worry about in second hand smoke. The reality is, there have not been any studies to date that reveal that electronic cigarettes are even hazardous to its users, let alone to innocent bystanders. Various tests, alternatively, indicate that they are infinitely better for your health than ordinary cigarettes are. Truth and valid science are neither here nor there to goverment health advocates, however. Much of their jobs and a great deal of their profit relies on endorsing whatever Big Pharma permits them to write a prescription for. Bending facts and varying public perception is vital to keeping the bucks flowing to Big Pharma and medical professionals alike. Director of the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Anthony Chen, states that the compounds in e cigarettes can be unsafe to users of electric cigs and to people close to them. The good doc offers no study, no evidence, no science to shore up his standpoint. There is no need to; he is the Director, for heaven's sake! Other health leaders who sustain Dr. Chen say that e cigs glamorize smoking to easily influenced young people. Really? How do they reach that conclusion? I'm still trying to determine what these impressionable young people are doing in my bar, anyway! Another board official, Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy, believes that electronic cigarettes come across too much like regular cigarettes to sanction their use in the open. Mr. McCarthy's concern is that regular cigarette users may get confused if individuals are vaping e cigs and that they might light their real cigarettes in forbidden spots, mistakenly believing it's acceptable. Sure they will; you must be an absolute imbecile otherwise you wouldn’t have begun smoking in the first place, eh? Conceivably Mr. McCarthy is asserting that electric cigarettes would be okay if they looked like a banana, a cucumber or a nice, healthy stalk of celery. (Honestly, I believe I would be more inclined to smoke something that resembles a toothbrush.) Suggesting that conventional cigarette smokers are less than bright might truly be the only truthful declaration being made here. 24 percent of the country's adult population smokes ordinary cigarettes, but they have done absolutely nothing to stop their rights being taken away year after year. The hispanic community comprises 16.3 percent of the population and those of african descent make up 12 percent of the country. The gay and lesbian segment of the community makes up around 1.7 percent of the american population. Could you envision the public outrage, the media firestorm, the protests in the streets that would transpire if a politician advocated getting rid of any one of these peoples' rights? The United States of America alleges to be the land of liberty, the home of the free. Bars, dining places, inns and businesses all should maintain the independence to proclaim their places as smoke-free or opt not to. Citizens who decide they do not want to be subjected to cigarette smoke should have the liberty to select smoke-free places, locations that tolerate cigarette smoking or neither. Smokers and companies alike have permitted the nanny state government to remove their freedom via the imposition of cigarette smoking restrictions. Each and every one has allowed it due to junk science press releases regarding second hand cigarette smoke. I just trust that sane thinking wins out in the future and that intelligent citizens appreciate that they are suddenly promoting an ordinance against a device that has not ever been shown to cause any injury at all. If the government can forbid electric cigarettes, it makes me speculate, what will be next? Please don’t ban my cheeseburger;cheesesteak;footlong hotdog; I saw the chubby child at the last table on the left drooling over it!
