Stress in Today's World “Oh, it’s only money”. Yeah that’s easy to say when you have it! Right? But when you find yourself living in fear of losing everything you’ve worked so hard for, you really lose sight of all rationality and reason and you STRESS! The truth is: we know it’s only money and we know what’s important in life and yes, we know that our health is everything and without it nothing else really matters, but even when we’re being grateful for all of the good things in our lives, and there are many, it still sucks when we are working our butts off and barely making it. Sound familiar? Unfortunately most of us do understand. Here’s a little story! Once upon a time there was a little girl (cut to: me now) who remembers when there were poor people, the middle class and the wealthy, rich, "comfortable people", whatever they choose to call themselves because people with money seem to act like they don’t have it. (No, not all but most!) Then this little girl grew up and realized that after many years of hard work, there is no middle class in this country anymore. Now there are only “the haves” and “the have nots”. More and more we are realizing that in this time of crisis in our country, men and women who have worked their entire lives for companies and who are just years away from retirement are being “let go”. Yeah, that’s the thanks you get after giving your entire life to a company. No pension, no insurance and no paycheck. Thank you though for all those years of service and hard work. You’ve been an asset to the company, it’s just that somebody younger will work for less. Oh and for those of us who are building small businesses, where’s the help? Where are those Small Business Loans “they” say we can get? Did you get one cause we didn’t? Did you have to borrow money from credit cards to compensate for lack of income while you’re building your business, building your website, paying for your unaffordable health insurance and putting food on your table? Bottom line, we are all stressed out of our minds. How can we not be? We’re trying so hard to follow our dreams and stay above water in these desperate times that the stress is killing us. Read the obits lately? We’re dying younger and younger when the life expectancy should be longer. Parents are out living their children. Stress is literally killing us, so ask yourself, like I am, “Is it worth it or is this bloody insanity”? Is it time to re-think what we’re doing with our lives and make some changes? At this point all we can do is take it one day at a time. “Wasn’t that a sitcom in the 80’s"? Pray we get some answers and guidance and maybe just maybe we’ll be some of the lucky ones who survive! Oh and if you’re fortunate enough to be in “the haves” category, please, have empathy and compassion for those who aren't so fortunate and count your blessings. You may even want to pay it forward! find out more on the following article at www.lifehack.org Stress Kills Researchers suggest that as much as 60-90% of illnesses are directly caused by or exacerbated by stress. Stress is related to major illnesses like heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, but can also cause back pain, headaches, tooth grinding, upset stomach and digestive problems, sleep loss and exhaustion, skin problems, unhealthy weight gain or loss, and of course, loss of sex drive. And that’s just the bodily symptoms: stress is linked to depression, anxiety, mood swings, confusion, restlessness, irritability, insecurity, forgetfulness, and a host of other negative mental and behavioral symptoms. For all that, stress is often worn as a badge of accomplishment in our society. It’s not enough that we compete to see who can do the most, but we compete to see who can handle the most stress doing it. With such an unhealthy attitude towards stress, it’s no wonder that stress- related illnesses are so common.
