The picture of a man speeding down the highway in a pick up truck with his dog sitting proudly in the front seat, head out of the window, is a familiar one. We associate man’s best friend with all kinds of activities and driving is one of the dog owner’s favourite past times. But times are changing and more and more drivers and dog owners are growing increasingly concerned about the dangers of driving a car with an unrestrained dog as the passenger. In response to this concern the pet industry has developed a fantastic solution that ensures a safer ride for the dog and the driver. What is a dog car seat? A dog car seat works in a similar way to a child’s car seat. It is attached to the car seat and provides a comfortable and safe way to hold your pet in place while driving. The benefits of car seats are far reaching. Firstly, they prevent your dog from moving about freely in the vehicle. Many dogs become excited or even agitated when they travel in a moving car. As a result they tend to climb onto the console or jump back and forth from the front seat to the back seat. The car seat will hold the dog in place and prevent it from causing harm to the driver or to itself in the case of an accident. The car seat will also prevent your dog from running onto the road when your vehicle is parked. Many people fail to recognise the need to have an animal restrained while driving but since the introduction of the dog car seat, it has become an obvious requirement. Types of dog car seats There are many types of car seats for dogs on the market. When choosing one, it is best to research various well known pet supply brands first. Determining which car seat is best for your dog depends on a number of factors. Firstly the size of the car is important. Next, you need to consider the size of your dog. Car seats are available in a range of sizes so it is necessary to choose a size that will hold your dog in place without excess room or too little room. Choosing the type of car seat will also depend on the nature of your pet. If your dog prefers to look out of the window while riding in the car, you may prefer to choose a car seat with a booster which will give the dog extra height for a great view. Of course, you also need to choose a colour and fabric that will match the interior of your car. Make your next ride a safe ride for you and your best friend with a dog car seat!
