This is how the famous polar Women's Canada Goose Chilliwack Bomber in his journal the first Ross's Gull he ever saw in 1893, and even now over a hundred years later, two hundred years since the Ross's Gull was first described to science, this description still holds true. Few birds can match the rare and mysterious Ross's Gull's ability to capture the imagination. Part of it may be their striking appearance, and part of it may be the secrets they still hold. To date scientists still don't have a good idea where Ross's Gulls actually spend their life. We know that probably most of them nest in the coastal tundra of Men's Canada Goose Expedition Parka , and that small numbers nest in the Canadian High Arctic and Greenland, but we can only account for less than 5% of the world's population at known breeding colonies. Once they leave their arctic breeding grounds, nobody knows where they go and although they probably spend the rest of the year somewhere in the far north feeding near the edge of the ice, how they end up there, or even how they survive the cold and dark winter remains a mystery. As conditions in the arctic become more favourable for increased industrial activity, one of our priorities has become to understand how we can safeguard the many species nesting in areas of the arctic where they may be disturbed by human activity, and so in 2011 the Women's Canada Goose CG55 Trillium Parka was formed to study a group of poorly known species nesting in the far north, and appropriately, we chose as our mascot and as our main focus the Ross's Gull, which is a Threatened Species in Canada. In 2011, we have tackled a number of unique projects to learn more about Ross's Gulls and other birds of the High Arctic, along the way receiving much help and support from all quarters which have made this possible.Please join us on our adventures and read on about our work in future posts!Since 2005, scientists from our research group have been studying a small colony of Ross's Gulls in the Men's Canada Goose Freestyle Vest and slowly trying to fit together the pieces of the puzzle. Conditions are harsh, the season is short, and the birds are reluctant to let up their secrets.
