Many may not realize this but online gaming guilds are very much alive. Guilds can come in all forms, from effortless gaming to immersed raiding; the members will decide how it will take shape. I've realized in my online gaming adventures that there seems to be a certain type of leader who can seize the bull by the horns and create an empire. Placing a firm leader in a place of influence can result in tremendous recruitment and overall guild sustainment. A helpful start to finding the perfect leader would be matching their personality with these attributes:
Wit: How many times have you found yourself laughing and following someone who kept you amused? The kind of humor that isn't excessively goofy and hints at an inherent interest in making people happy. Consider someone who can express themselves well; jokes are often the best way to gauge this ability. Glib or sarcasm, when weilded appropriately, can yeild great results. Availability: Establishing a reliable presence is key. Remember that your leader should stress being online and lead by example in this regard. If the player you have in mind for leadership can't seem to log in frequently, your guild will profit more if they're placed in a supportive role instead. Conflict Resolve: Why does it always seem that gamers today have no problem being completely absorbed in anonymity and selfishness? A capable leader will act without delay to prevent these conflicts from spiraling out of check. On the flip side, the leader shouldn't jump at every fleck or conflicting comment that a player makes. Adults are much more equipped to deal with problems as opposed to children; I know some adults can certainly act the latter but we'll try to remain positive in this article. Diplomacy: Dealing with contender guilds, especially ones having more success than yours, takes patience and foresight. It's the guild leaders job to coordinate with these competitive guilds and prevent things from getting nasty. I've had the most success befriending these guilds via common goals - try to identify what makes them tick and use it to an advantage. benefits for both parties can always be realized when your leader spins a suggestion to look more favorable for the other crowd. Loyalty: Loyalty is particularly important for smaller guilds who are looking to grow in an already competitive environment. Picking a charismatic leader will help to keep member commitment up and prevent people from bailing. It's often easier to tell where someone's loyalty lies by seeing how committed to the game they are. If your leader is ready to front money for a voice-chat server or website hosting, there’s a good chance he/she is in for the long haul. Would you jump ship on your friends after making promises and spending your own money to make those promises happen? Probably not. Leadership is an art that is rare in the online world… With each generation of gamer becoming more and more self-centered the spirit of leadership becomes suppressed. If you've agreed with anything I've written so far, you'll note that building a community far outweighs personal gain and interest. Remember to commit to others as you would yourself and you may just be surprised at the results. Can you handle it?
