Situated in the Vindhya Hill Ranges in the state of Madhya Pradesh is a small tiger heaven called Bandhavgarh. The preserve boasts of highest density of tigers in India. It is the best place to see the tiger in wild. Relatively unknown in the seventies the park was declared a National Park in the year 1968 and a Tiger Reserve in the year 1993. Bandhavgarh was a small hunting preserve of Maharajahs of Rewa who ruled over the region in the pre independence era. After the independence the forests on Bandhavgarh where brought under the protected area in order to conserve the unit and its tigers. Beside tigers the park is home to many animals and birds. The reserve came into limelight whence a white tiger was discovered by the Royal Family of Rewa and subsequently reared in captivity. The white tigers flourished in the zoo but no white tiger was discovered in the jungles of India after this event. With the establishment of MP tourism accommodation the park started to receive a small number of wildlife and nature lovers. At that time the only accommodation besides was the forest rest house with few rooms. But as the popularity of the resort grew the number of tourists began to increase suddenly. This is one of the most beautiful ecosystems in Central India with thirty two hillocks, deep valleys and marshy grasslands. The flat topped mountains rise up to 800 MSL and create altitude variation responsible for mind boggling diversity. The meandering streams, ponds and numerous water holes are the life support systems of this prime tiger habitat. With increasing awareness of the tiger’s miserable plight more and more people were attracted towards tiger tourism. Today the National Park receives thousands of inbound and local visitors every year. The tiger reserve has all types of accommodations ranging from budget to five star category.
