Smallville's seventh season has been getting below average ratings in comparison with their previous seasons' ratings. However, there's nothing to be worried about as the producers of the popular series have cast none other than Helen Slater, the original Supergirl, to portray Clark Kent's mother in a two-episode stint in the series. Helen Slater played Kara in the 1984 Superman flick, and now she plays Lara, Clark 's biological mother in Smallville. Surely, fans will marvel at how the producers will pull off a mother and son bonding plot after all that has happened, but nonetheless, what's important is that the two reunite after a terribly long time. Smallville will be featuring three episodes during the sweeps period, two of which include Slater. Moreover, Smallville's ratings, which began to decline previously, received a double digit boost during the seven day DVR. However, there's no denying that the show is indeed growing old and slowing down, thus its ratings have indeed suffered the same fate. Some even predict that this will be the last season of Smallville. Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor, already announced his retirement from the show as soon as this season concludes, meaning that Lex will be going through his super bad transition within this season. But Lex Luthor isn't the only one to turn into the ultimate big bad bald antagonist, as rumors are circulating that Tom Welling will be playing Superman in a Justice League movie. What a better way to wrap up the Smallville series with a little transition to film. The movie is set to be released in 2010, so that would give Welling ample time to think about it, and while doing so, continue on with Smallville, if and when it gets renewed for another season. Until then, fans will have to sit and watch for more developments on Smallville.
