The latest boost in popularity of the zombie horror genre has been granted added strength by the wildly popular AMC channel's TV series "The Walking Dead." The Walking Dead is a post apocalyptic horror drama television show. The production follows Sheriff Rick Grimes and his pitiful band of survivors as they form a life in the distinct world of ravenous, cannibalistic zombies. A zombie virus has infected most of the world's population and the minute remaining survivors clash with each other and their ultramodern world. When I contemplate the apocalypse, the basic item that comes to mind is a zombie virus plague that is a human race ruining pandemic. Once an tainted human is ravaged by host zombies, the newly contaminated human typically rises to take up with and append to the ranks of the undead multitude. Why do I think this is a viable synopsis? If you glance at most pandemics, they are hastily and easily spread from human to human via airborne or blood borne microbes. The tainted then generate a fever that can broaden to hallucinations and even anger. This is not far from the zombie characteristic virus. Of those infected, two scenarios exist: demise or recovery. This is also very much alike to zombie outbreaks. Viral outbreaks like swine flu also have created panic among populations. Again, this is typical of the zombie sequence of events. What is so great about the AMC TV series The Walking Dead is not that the world has ended or that the group is struggling to survive. The show is well written. The characters have depth and the clash is human. The emotion in the production is compelling. Have you ever thought about how you would function in the contingency of an undead zombie apocalypse? Many individuals would have inner breakdowns, others would "opt-out" or accept the suicide solution. The actors of The Walking Dead are again and again facing discord inside (can they handle the agony and despair) and the tussle among the crew. To further broaden the antagonism, limited cliques in the crew have emerged. In my fiction writing about the zombie apocalypse, I have tried to build characters that are three dimensional. Anyhow, one of the issues I have experienced is that this is a challenge when writing short stories. The architects of the drama are diabolical as well. They have realized that the show is tremendously celebrated and lucrative. Using brilliant marketing cunning, they have enacted a mid term cutoff for a moment. In doing so, the architects were able to conceive two mini seasons in one average season timeframe. This allows the creators to add to the suspense and drama which is what the show is all about, not just the apocalypse. At first, I was shocked and mad about the situation but after thinking about it, I realize that this is better for the quality of the production. This break gives the writers and producers more time to establish a better product. In the end, the viewers will be happier with a better product. I am looking forward to the following half of this season and hope to transition much of what I grasp to my own writing. In the near future I will be releasing my inceptive novel and I anticipate that my ability and lessons learned will bear out to be a big hit.
