Dentist practices dentistry which involves diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity. Oral diseases are a major problem for the public especially for the disadvantaged affected persons. The majority of doctors who go for the treatment of the most common oral diseases are dental caries and periodontal disease or the gum disease. Here the treatment involves the restoration of teeth as a treatment for dental caries and extraction of teeth which cannot be restored, scaling of teeth and the root canal treatment to treat the abscessed teeth. Dentists also tell the patients to have proper hygiene and regular checkups. Oral cavity may lead to many diseases like osteoporosis, diabetes or cancer. There is a high risk of diabetes and heart disease too from oral cavity. Some common dentist treatments can be as follows:www.familyhealthcareus.com 1. Whitening or tooth bleaching: this is one of the most common treatments that the dentist applies for the patients. They go for the lightening of discolored teeth. 2. Tooth reshaping: It removes the parts of the enamel to improve the appearance of the teeth. It may be used to correct a small chip or to change the length, shape and position of teeth. It can be used to correct crooked or long shaped teeth. This is also known as enameloplasty. This procedure makes fast results and can even be a substitute for braces under some situation. 3. Bonding: Here the dentists apply enamel like dental composite material at the tooth’s surface and it is sculpted into shape, hardened and then polished. 4. Dental bridges: These are false teeth and are known as pontics. In this situation to fill up the missing tooth the pontics are fused with the porcelain crowns. The two crowns are holding the tooth on both sides. Dentists usually use this procedure to replace one or more missing teeth. They are also called fixed bridges as they are permanently fixed and cannot be taken out if needed. They can reduce the risk of gum disease and help to correct some bite issues and even improve the speech. But this requires high oral hygiene and can last for ten years or more. 5. Veneers: They are ultra thin porcelain laminates that are directly attached directly with the teeth. They are used to close the gaps between teeth. Reduction may be necessary if it is needed. If one or more teeth have been slightly crooked, veneers of varying thickness can be fitted to make them appear. Veneers can last for several years but they can be damaged or broken like normal teeth. 6. Gum lift: This is also a common dentist treatment that raises and sculpts the gum line. The procedure involves shaping the tissue or the bones to make the appearance of longer or more symmetrical teeth. 7. Bite Reclamation: Here the patients can alter their shape of the teeth. It gives a shorter or closed look to their face and smile. There are some cosmetic dental treatments which the dentist usually go for which restore, whiten or straighten the teeth. Dental health care Fillings: This procedure is usually used to fill holes or cavities that have formed in the teeth as a result of decay. There are two types of fillings – amalgam and composite. Amalgam fillings are made of combination of metals including silver, tin, copper and mercury. This is a very hard filling and can well used for grinding and chewing the back teeth for long periods of time. Composite feeling can be used for natural looking. They are usually used to show when we talk or smile. But the lasting part is not much that of the amalgam fillings. Crowns: this is used when the teeth is broken or weakened by a lot of decay or a large filling. A crown looks like a natural tooth. It may be made of porcelain, gold or a combination of metal with tooth colored porcelain. Straightening tooth: This treatment is often used to straighten or move the teeth to improve the appearance or function. It is a very common general dentist treatment. It helps to keep the teeth and gums healthy by spreading the pressure of the bite out evenly. This is known as orthodontic treatment. It involves wearing braces in the teeth. It puts gentle pressure on specific teeth to move them into the right place. This is needed to wear between six months and two years. Here the dentist will monitor the teeth and make adjustments to the brace. It is usually carried out during childhood. Thus we can see that we must go for the dental treatments whenever necessary and this is the part which makes the face of the person really changed and feels happier for the whole life. www.familyhealthcareus.com
