I still remember when email was not for everybody. In the nineties, it was just getting started and still unknown to many. I am willing to bet that even most of the elderly these days knows what email is. The immensely popular sitcom Seinfeld had an episode that I will never forget. The characters were sitting at the diner, which they do in probably every episode. But then they started talking about email, and that is probably the first time I had heard of email being used in pop culture. These days, if you do not have an email address forget about signing up for most things online. If you want to write a blog or have a social networking site, you will of course need an email address first. Email has really been brought to the fore front of our many ways of communication. With the addition of smart phones, email is now available to us as long as there is cell phone reception. It is no surprise that electronic mail is taking over. It is quite easy to send pictures across the country, which is probably one of the main reasons that my father uses email so much. He uses it to stay in touch with distant relatives. There is so many ways that we as a society use email. If you want to have a job in the twenty first century, you will most certainly need an email account. Personally, I use a Gmail account, and I have absolutely no problems with it. It is very simple and laid out clearly, something that I look for with websites that I frequent. Some email accounts require a fee to join, where most are free to use. Keep in mind that if you pay for one, you are basically paying to have little or no advertisements. I am not sure if you still have to be invited to Gmail, but I am sure that if you ask around you can find someone with a Gmail account who can invite you. I have one last piece of advice for using email in the twenty first century, and perhaps this one is more geared up to the youth of the country. Pick a simple, profane-free email address.
