FREMONT, CA--May 15, 2012: Delta Products Corporation, a DeltaGroup company, headquartered in Fremont, CA, has been awarded a$1.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), forthe development and demonstration of a residential electric vehiclecharging system with smart grid communication capabilities. Thesmart-charging system will allow utilities to reduce infrastructurecosts and manage load during peak hours. The system will benefitconsumers by taking advantage of off-peak electricity rates forelectric vehicle charging. Delta's system price is targeted to be50% lower than today's competing technologies. The research projectwill develop smart-grid enabled residential electric vehiclechargers over the next 3 years that will allow the quick deploymentof charging infrastructure for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) tohelp reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. Delta will work inconjunction with their partners The Detroit Edison Company,Mercedes Benz R&D North America, and kVA to develop a workingdemonstration system. "To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutionsfor a better tomorrow" The DOE grant is part of $7 million in research and developmentfunding that will help improve the development and design ofelectric vehicle charging equipment. The grant furthers the U.S.Department of Energy's commitment to improve America's energysecurity and economic competitiveness through the development ofadvanced vehicle technologies.
