To develop your mental capacity, engage in activities that need brainwork. This especially applies to people who are not in school anymore. Among the desired activities to help boost your brain power are reading pocketbooks or solving jigsaw puzzles. In addition, when you are faced with a difficult situation, try practicing the skill of making an action plan. This involves making a plan A, B, and C of solving your problem with specific steps to take in each option.
Emotional strength. Even though the science of emotions has not yet been fully understood, it has been established even as early as Freud’s time that your id can easily overcome your superego. The emotions ruling over higher mental process has been the culprit of many psychological disorders such depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. Even eating disorders are rooted in unhealthy control over one’s emotions.
Gaining control over one’s emotions is the key of how to become healthy and fit. This starts with developing healthy coping mechanisms to problems. Whatever self-destructive habits you have when faced with problems should be reduced and then eliminated. This can be done by learning relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation.
